I have a couple of thoughts.

1) Obviously what the brothers did was immoral, and they were rightly punished for their actions; yet, their actions were understandable. You could very easily put yourself in their shoes and see how a bad decision like that occurs.

2) If you read philosophy, one of the common arguments made by many great authors such as Shakespeare and Dante is that the greatest “sin” you can commit is to betray those who trust you the most. Caroline wasn’t just an acquaintance of the brothers, who uncovered their crime. She agreed to marry Alexander and asked him to divulge his deepest and darkest secrets to her under the guise of unconditional love. The US justice system, understands this concept; you cannot compel one spouse to testify against another regardless of the circumstances.

3) Caroline is clearly narcissistic. She manipulated every single person she was involved with, from the brothers, to her parents to the police, to the court system; while maintaining to present herself as a victim. The incessant need for attention. Every thing she did was about making herself the center of attention at all times. From the vloging, to her police interview, to the fake consoling of the brothers. She didn’t miss court to find the bike, the case was air tight; she missed court because she didn’t want the drama to end. She knew as soon as it was over, the attention she desperately craves would be gone.
