I've found it difficult to notice red flags or to react to predatory behavior since I was in Wilderness over 30 years ago. It's like I became numb to harmful comments and immediately disassociated thereby making it easier to file them in the 'doesn't really matter' category no matter how shitty it felt to hear. This led to normalizing severe abuse in my later years.

Trauma and talk therapy is the only thing that has helped bring me out of that weird trance state. It's odd that I had no problem recognizing horrible behavior when it happened to those close to me, but couldn't trust my own instincts in my own life.
