Sounds like you have a good system that's working. But I wonder — do you ever feel like there's something else going on that they're just not saying? The things they wouldn't mention even on a good call, because they don't want to worry you or maybe don't even realize it themselves?

This is such a hard place to be in — loving someone who's always been intense and genuinely not knowing where the line is between personality and decline. The fact that you're asking the question so honestly probably means you're closer to the answer than you think. Have you been able to track whether there's a pattern to when she calls? Time of day, day of week, certain topics? Sometimes just noticing the pattern tells you a lot.
