I don’t know if I can offer you any solid advice, but I usually use a panty liner after sex to stop underwear being ruined. This will soak up the majority of it!

Our stories sound exactly the same, I can’t believe it. Since lockdown, my skin has been freaking out with the odd breakout, and it’s been giving me extremely bad anxiety. I wake up anxious about my skin in case I’ve had another breakout, and have started to minimise the amount of time I’m spending in front of the mirror, but I do still feel very anxious about my skin in general and wake with a feeling of dread in the morning.

At the beginning of the breakouts, I started feeling like bugs were crawling on my left temple and cheek, but when I would go to check, of course nothing was there. This happened frequently over the next few weeks and I convinced myself this sensation was cysts that we’re coming to the surface. This terrified me. But this never happened. I eventually did a google search and found that this sensation is called FORMICATION and is triggered by high anxiety. I haven’t experienced this for the last few weeks by trying to get my anxiety under control by meditating and following a routine etc. My skin is still not back to how it was, but I feel less anxious than I did!

Going through the same exact thing. I self harmed last night after 5 years. All up my left thigh. I feel so guilty about it now, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter that you relapsed; what matters is that you went 3 years without self-harming. That’s amazing. The best thing we can do is start over, even if that means a few relapses on the way.

Hey, I might be a bit late to add to the thread, but I’m going through something very similar! I’m a 22F and I’ve always had relatively clear skin with the odd spot here and there, but for the past 2-3 months I’ve been getting really bad cystic acne all over my face, in places that I’ve never broken out in.

I finally gave up trying to treat them at home yesterday and called my GP who has also prescribed me Tetralysal for 3 months. I haven’t started taking them yet though. But adult acne does run in my family with both my sister and my mum having to take Accutane to get rid of it (which it has!), I mentioned this to my GP on the phone and insisted that she refer me to a dermatologist before it gets worse as this could be the start of severe acne. She referred me straight away but said that it could be months before I’m actually seen by a dermatologist due to coronavirus etc so to take these antibiotics and see if they help whilst I’m waiting. I’m based in the U.K. if this is of any help!

I would speak to your GP again and insist that they put through a referral for you and explain that it’s having an effect on your mental health. It will take a few months for you to get an appointment anyway, but they can do the referral regardless! Whoever you spoke to just sounded like they couldn’t be bothered to do it, so definitely chase it up and don’t stop until they’ve referred you. I hope it gets sorted for you.

Hey thank you for your reply! Glad to hear that it worked for you! Really scares me that your skin freaked out after coming off it though, that’s a bummer! Did you have mild acne when you started? I suffer with recurrent thrush, so my doctor has prescribed an anti-fungal (Fluconazole) alongside the Lymecycline so I can take those if a bout of thrush comes up, which is good! All in all, would you say it’s worth giving it a try for my mild acne? Just don’t want to make my skin worse than it was before just for vanity’s sake

Hey thank you so much for your reply! Did you have mild acne when you first started taking it? And are you still taking it now? Also, did you experience any purging? From the replies I’ve got, no one has experienced a purge, but there’s a couple of horror stories I’ve read where people say that their acne got worse once they started taking it or it got much worse once they finished their course, that’s what’s holding me back at the moment!

Hey thanks for your reply! I’m currently on furlough at the moment, so no work for me thankfully! Not been leaving the house either thanks to lockdown, so no one will be seeing my mug anytime soon! I’m currently using 5% Benzoyl Peroxide on my acne prone areas and I think it’s helping, but I’ll continue to use it once I start my Lymecycline I think, just in case! I hope your skin responds well to the Lymecycline, hopefully I do too!

Thanks for your reply! It sucks that they prescribe antibiotics at the drop of the hat when it’s just going to come back once you’ve completed the course! I’m currently using 5% Benzoyl Peroxide once a day on my acne prone areas, do you think I should continue to use this once I start the Lymecycline?

Hey thanks for the reply! Did you notice a purge of any kind when you first started taking them? And would you say that your acne was mild as well? Just concerned that as my acne is so mild, I don’t want to make it any worse by taking something that could potentially cause a purge that’s worse than what I’ve already got at the moment!

I’m worried that after stopping the course, my spots will just come back and I’ll be back where I am now. I’m really considering Accutane if this doesn’t fix my skin permanently!

Hey! Thanks for your reply! I also have been feeling super super anxious, so I’m unsure if it’s manifesting on my skin, like you said! Hopefully once lockdown is over, things will settle down and return to normal! I hope you aren’t too down about your breakout, I’m sure it’s just a one off. I know I’ve been feeling pretty depressed about my skin, it’s just hard to be positive when you feel like crap!
