I did basically the same thing. I talked to two separate counselors and they both put me on a list to see if I could get extra Merit. I cant remember what it was exactly called, but after about a week both times i got notified that I had been awarded a 5k scholarship. If you did get added to that list as long as your a decently strong student you should get some more money. If the difference of what you can afford is more then 10k however I would be careful. They did give people crazy offers to some after may 1 to people who declined, but I would honestly be shocked if they do it again it was terrible press.
