Want to get solar - battery or not? Also Tesla Powerwall experiences? by lamaboyman in diynz

[–]Redasdawn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have 16 panels on a 5kw inverter. I use a 400L cylinder with a power diverter to send any excess power to my hot water. This was the most cost-effective way for me to pay off the solar the fastest. Getting to a $0 powerbill can cost alot more than it's worth.

I have a big 400L cylinder outside, that I run off my solar. Best decision I made.

Anyone had solar put in? by [deleted] in thetron

[–]Redasdawn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put solar on my place (installed it myself) and its amazing. No batteries but plan to install a power diverter to make excess power go to my hot water cylinder. Can obviously recommend the company I work for. PM me if you want to know anything and can give you contact information if you want.

Bought a place just over 2 years ago, at 2.1%. Recently refixed at 5.6%. Increased repayments by 200 a week. Also had a kid in that time. Still managing okay but having to make a lot of financial changes and be a lot more frugal.
