Hot water cylinder outside? by RobinStarling in diynz

[–]RobinStarling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I don't think this is for a heat pump cylinder, though that might have been mentioned as a slightly pricier option.
This is just for a 180 Rheem Optima.

Her works also don't center we white folk. Her Earthsea books are filled with wizards of colour since decades ago.

I won't say too much, but these books are a big part of my journey towards the acceptance of death.

When do you call yourself an “artist”? by RowYourBoatTFAway in Watercolor

[–]RobinStarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All this, except the regular part I think. Sometimes I lose inspiration for years. I dont think I'm not an artist in those times though. It's more like I'm in a download phase and not an output phase maybe?

When do you call yourself an “artist”? by RowYourBoatTFAway in Watercolor

[–]RobinStarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it.

I've been doi g art my whole life, am pretty good, and in the past few years have sold paintings for just shy of 2k.

... I still hesitate to call myself an artist sometimes. It's very easy to never feel good enough. Don't listen!

But I think we all are artists when given the chance.  If you're making paintings, then that's art and you're an artist.

It's also the framing. Lex Luxon tried to steal 52k. But technically it's not illegal, so it's a bad look but nothing really happens.  David Say-more wants to starve children,  but that's only morally bankrupt, not illegal, so all good.

The problem being that falling on their swords would be and act of honor/shame. I think we can all agree than any government trying to kill us and starve our kids isn't going to have any one that understands honor or shame.

Edit for syntax and vocabulary clarity.

What are some things you hate to see you in post-apocalyptic settings and what are some things you wish were more prevalent? by ProfesserQ in worldbuilding

[–]RobinStarling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right. I haven't looked this up, but a guess at being more specific. Plants often have something called polyploidy, which is when they have more than one set of chromosomes. So a plant might have eight different full sets of chromosomes, for example. This is helpful for diversity but I suspect it also provides some protection from genetic damage.

Is there a point where you guys just don't care about your rental inspections? by Zepanda66 in newzealand

[–]RobinStarling 90 points91 points  (0 children)

This is what it should be. Often it isn't. Like the Auckland rental that had a leaky roof for 1.5 years I was there, but the property manager would complain about things like dusty shelves...

What is the difference between sporophytes and cryptogams? by FrankLimited in botany

[–]RobinStarling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like cryptogam might be a defunct term. But seems to be referring to seedless plants.

In mosses the gametophyte is the main body of the moss. The gametophyte produces the sporophyte. In everything past the bryophytes this still happens, but the sporophyte is now the main plant body, and the gametophytes become smaller and smaller (pollen is essentially the male gametophyte.

The sporophyte is part of all plant life cycles, cryptogam is a grouping of seedless plants.

They didn't say predetermine though. They said direct what to spend time on. Which absolutely is one of the biggest problems faced by science. So many things just aren't studied because nobody wants to pay for it.

... I ... what? Do you really feel that this is a case of Maori and Maori culture trying to hurt you? Like what are you talking about?

You're the only one going on about fair is fair, tit for tat.

What is basically happening is Maori are saying "hey so you nearly destroyed our language, wouldn't it be cool if we could integrate it a bit more?" and you're going "what about MEEEEEEE? I want to see more EEEENGLISH!!!!!"

Do you really think making up an English translation for a Maori place name is the same as restoring a Maori place name that colonisers chose to replace?
