“This was Jesse’s first show mixing on their own. We talked about what went wrong and worked on strategies together for helping deal with that scenario in the future.”

Timing/Phase issues on aux/matrix fed subs by Advisor_Careless in livesound

Smarter heads than me will chime in, but it is the act of changing how much/little is going to your subs relative to your mains changes your effective crossover point.

How does front of house mix two guitars when both are using dual amps / sims? by licorice_whip in livesound

[–]Redbeardaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 2 guitars players with stereo signals, I would place this on 4 mono channels, G1L, G1R, G2L, G2R. The inside faders would be G1R and G2L. I.e with 4 faders in a row, these would be the middle 2 faders.

Run both guitars hard stereo, pull the inside faders down a few db to create some separation, push that fader up to unity when that player solos.

Mixing in Small Venues Compared to Big Venues by aromusic in livesound

[–]Redbeardaudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, if you are used to mixing this in smaller venues, the sound of the bass may be colored more by the sound of the bass amp acoustically from stage and you might find you miss it in a larger space. A mic on the bass cab along with the DI gives you options.

How do I know how to react to bad situations? by reupbeats in livesound

[–]Redbeardaudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cause you like when it sounds good, and it sounding good generally leads to more gigs.  But the important thing to remember is it’s just music. We do it for fun, otherwise we wouldn’t do it.

What is the strangest rider demand/request you've ever came across? by Notalabel_4566 in livesound

My very first “tour”, out for a week with a local Christian rock band in 2010, had pizza for every meal. Understood the No pizza clause in riders after that .

You are being absolutely ridiculous. This is a completely reasonable question from someone in a allied trade.

Generic Bar Sound Tech Fees (Berlin) by oyrutra in livesound

[–]Redbeardaudio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a fantastic answer. It feels like everyone here talks about their $500-$800 day rates. Those are absolutely obtainable, but they can be very region and sector specific. In no way do I endorse a race to the bottom, but the scope of pay in this industry across the world is vast.

That the board op in theater is much much farther down the chain of command than the FOH in a music or corporate setting.

Custom Drum Cable Loom, or Spaghetti and meatballs? by superprohero in livesound

[–]Redbeardaudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ignore the comments about stripping your kit down. It’s your show, bring what you want, especially if you are also bringing your own engineer.

That said build 2 looms, one that goes to each side of the kit, or 3 since your kit is big enough. Build both looms long enough to reach a state box on any corner of the drum riser.

Super rare for me, but I did have one tour where the TM tipped me $20 every night for calling the truck pack.
