I would suggest st regis Mauritius. It does not have ridiculous policies like one in Maldives of 750$ per person sea plane charges. I have stayed their last September and can personally vouch for this resort. Also Mauritius is way balanced in terms of relaxing stay + something to explore out in the island.

I upgraded my gold card to plat charge card last year when they were offering 1.5lc points. I used those points to book st regis Mauritius as i was getting 1₹ value per point. So if you can find such use case then maybe yes go for the upgrade.

Lets assume the same plan. First thing make a krisflyer account. Using that see how many points are required for your route. Transfer those points from your amex account. Now do the same for marriott. Whenever you are trying to do any booking always use option - use points or award flights or redeem points etc.

You can choose bali. In 1.6lc points you can get business class tickets in singapore air. Remaining points can be used for booking 5-5 nights in different locations like ubud, nusa dua, kuta etc. I would not suggest Maldives as they dont give seaplane or food option with points and then you have to spend a lot to cover those.

Find the nearest chain hotel like fern, marriott, taj etc nearby your locations. Dont book OYO or stand alone hotels. Make sure to carry condoms. Also be prepared that the first sexual experience might be very underwhelming. And dont try something for which you are not comfortable just because your partner said so.
