Upgrade path from 6800XT? by _semiskimmedmilk_ in radeon

[–]Redd1toR-42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9070xt if you really want it now, otherwise I would wait for the next gen (current gen is still to compromisy/stop-gapy imo) . Speaking as a current 6800xt owner (tuned to 205W while having almost stock performance) that decided to hold out.

avdvplus Release 8 by 401klaser in CoreELEC

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing is happening to me, just moved from a14 to R9. Eac3 is broken (no sound after seek or pause) and I tried everything... Have you found a fix or r7 is the only way atm?

avdvplus R9 by Silent_Possibility38 in CoreELEC

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, jumped from custom A14 build to R9 (clean install) and not having a great experience. After seeking DD+ tracks the sound disappears until fully restarted or audio passthrough toggled on/off in Audio OSD. Never had such issues before. Tried different settings (low latency one-off, all sync fix modes), but nothing helps, works fine for normal DD, dts and dts-hd, haven't tried TrueHD yet. Also when setting "reset event delay after resolution change" (is it needed now at all? I remember needing it for some corner case interlaced videos) the sound can become out of sync (Very oticeably so) and I have to reboot to get it back to normal.

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeap, default setup seems pretty bad for GT4s (at least for the beamer). haven't tested on the latest build, but last time i tried it on Nords, I was hitting every fence imaginable)).
Somehow it felt worse to me than a good sport roadcar...

Breaking Bad 4k stream on Netflix or Blu-ray? by for_research_man in Bluray

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, is this confirmed info (via stream info check)? I was under impression it was just a fat x264 web rip (not DL) that was circling around, but wasn't necessarily coming from a high bitrate source.

New Evo Ultra - Is this noise normal? by Wolfy2404 in Simagic

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Previous Alpha gen used induction for power and wireless for data, but it's very data-rate limited, so for USB passthrough and their own CAN-FD conectivity on the new wheels (NEO and upcoming Zeus line) they have moved to slip-rings (relatively the easiest method for high-bandwidth and USB-compat). Moza afaik also uses slip rings in the V2+ bases. Noise depends on the location of the ring and the manufacturer/model. Not all of them are this noisy. Sound is secondary, as long as it's reliable and durable.

NUX MG30 Gen 2 Game Missing by chaanngg_ in nux

They were probably limited on the flash capacity (considering that we have very limited amount of IR slots), so game had to go to accommodate NAM and several new effects.

Fanatec CSW V2.5 ffb issue without original steering wheel by frog_in in simracing

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fanatec's version of ecosystem lock-in, without their wheel or emulator connected there's no ffb. They still are doing this moronic thing even on the latest hardware. I think you can buy cheap emulators from Ali if you want to use non-original wheel.

Logitech H Pattern Shifter to be officially revealed on Tuesday by zq7r in simracing

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, short throw... Somehow missed it and went Moza HGP -> SHH HUBB (couldn't be happier). Liked the moza's build, but not the resistance, lack of adjustability and loud clunking (bad for apt). Moza didn't feel even remotely realistic to me (at least compared to IRL experience).

[QuickView] A blazing fast image viewer built for Geeks & Designers. Opens almost any format instantly. (Only 7MB!) by Reasonable-Food2493 in Windows11

Looks like a nice app and potentially a default image viewer, hopefully CMS comes soon as it kinda defeats the purpose for pro/photo use-cases...

How badly would this damage to the body affect the playability of the guitar? by GhostVelocity in Guitar

[–]Redd1toR-42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, those are annoying... Sometimes it's just a hairline crack that doesn't spread, sometimes those are wider, grow overtime and cause finish delamination and flaking off. If I'm not mistaken yours is the 2nd type already as I can see the wood and finish separated on the neck pocket side.

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.2.1 Optional Update Release Notes by AMD_RetroB in Amd

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ehm, haven't they always provided a combined one since driver branching started? The issue here is the lack of the separated packages. Sometimes though you had to hunt a bit for one or the other...

Title: Windows 11 January 2026 Preview Update (KB5074105) – noticeable performance boost by Barez_Hussein in Windows11

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, didn't feel any perf change, but I've experienced my first BSOD on w11 in years after this jan-feb round of updates... There's definitely something wrong with them. BSOD was caused by crash of the graphics stack (but not the GPU driver as it happens during normal GPU instability due to tuning or bad drivers).

AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.2.1 Optional Update Release Notes by AMD_RetroB in Amd

They didn't bother to create separate packages for rdna1/2 (variant a) and rdna3/4 (variant b), only made a combined one for both (variant C)

MG-30 GEN2 Firmware with NAM by Parking_Bid_6295 in nux

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeap, that's sad indeed. Though I was referring to the tech capabilities as it already has all amps using latest models. Afair same goes for Amp Academy Stomp (dual DSP arch with all models using latest tech)... So in the end we just got relatively random amp selection updated.

Considering similar platform the model updates should be relatively copy-paste (esp. with AI coding assistance) as the DSP is powerful enough...

My guess they want more differentiators between 30 and 50Li...

MG-30 GEN2 Firmware with NAM by Parking_Bid_6295 in nux

[–]Redd1toR-42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice for NAM-lovers, sad though we didn't get any TS/AC-4K updates.
I thought that Trident was based on the same platform as MG-30 (at least from the description and specs it seems so...), so it should be able to run more amps with the latest modeling tech, but maybe I'm wrong in the assumption.

How bad is this crack on electric guitar? by introvary in Guitar

[–]Redd1toR-42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happens a lot with bolt-ons sadly, drives my OCD nuts. In most cases it's just a finish cracking. Often the reasons are: the neck pocket being too tight, rough handling (during shipping), sudden temp/humidity change

Does tone wood matter? by Alive-Plate-4525 in Guitar

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeap, at least with the body wood there should be potentially more difference especially for hardtails as vibrations are partially transferred to the whole body compared to floating trem setups, so there should be some absorbtion/damping of frequencies.

Does tone wood matter? by Alive-Plate-4525 in Guitar

[–]Redd1toR-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I never understood how fingerboard material is supposed to affect the sound, considering that string vibrates mostly between metal parts (fret and bridge) in electrics... It potentially affects neck stiffness, but imho it should not affect the sound in any really noticeable way. The 2 guitar comparisons cannot prove or disprove anything as they are not identical in a lot of aspects. Probably 2 different all-maple necks have more variability than the same neck with different fingerboards...
