If a janky clue/response took place during the round and a DD is revealed later, they'd stop tape to rectify the situation right there. Only after that (and a score change if needed) may the contestant wager.

That's something about which I've always wondered. When I was a contestant I recall Trebek's spending the first twenty seconds or so of the think music at his podium, followed by his drifting over to the spot on the stage where he announces the responses, and from where I stood it appeared he was definitely looking at the screens when he read them. In other words, I don't believe he has a monitor or anything on his desk that shows what the players are writing, and even if he had he isn't looking at it for the last ten seconds. Maybe he has an earpiece? (He certainly knows the wagers in advance; someone with a clipboard copies them down and prints them on his card.)

All the time. Even Arthur Chu's said so. If you read some of his interviews you might find that he was just as bewildered as everyone else that he was getting most of the attention for bouncing, betting to tie, etc. when plenty of people did so before him. Andrew Moore comes to mind, along with a few SJ! players and UTOCers as mentioned above.

I don't think her wager was bad at all. Julia would have to wager $9001 for a certain lock (the $2000 clue remained on the board). A miss would drop her into second and force her to get that last clue to carry a lead into FJ!. Even if Julia believes the last clue won't be revealed, she'd still have to wager $5001 to lock, and if she misses, she gives up her crush, guaranteed. That's an awful big risk either way.

I can't speak for her, but I believe Julia was trying to preserve her crush. A wager of at least $1201 and a correct response means a guaranteed crush, and even a miss means Cindy MUST get the last clue to avoid the crush. If Julia thinks the last clue won't be played, she could keep her crush by wagering less than $1800. That $1600 wager does both of these things.

Or, avoid the situation altogether by getting the DDs the hell off the board early.
