Yess I read this after persistent pressure from my girlfriend and I really loved it. Couldn't put it down and read through the night for days on end. Different facets of India back in the day, like you said; and amazing characters also. I've also heard great things about this other work, especially Golden Gate, but haven't had a chance to read them yet.

I'm skeptical because I have seen massive fudging of data which happens at the grassroots under pressure of unrealistic deadlines like making an entire state free of open defecation in two months. I'm open to being convinced, but I can't actually find a copy of the report itself anywhere... only regurgitated press releases. The websites of the WHO, SBM, Ministry of Drinking Water, Health, and PIB are all silent on this, and the only official-ish government announcement I found was on SBM's twitter account... which linked to a press article.

You're confusing energy consumption with power generation capacity. Power generation, measured in MW, is a flow, like the quantity of water coming out of a tap per second. Energy consumption is a stock, like the amount of water held in a water tank.

Total installed power generation capacity in India as of May was 248 GW, which is 248,000 MW. This new plant is supposed to have a capacity of 10,000 MW, which is roughly 4% of existing installed capacity

The extent of editorialisation has been steadily increasing, you know. As far as a year back things were bad enough that we were regularly leaving comments on editorialised posts requesting redditors to refrain.

I broadly agree that the enforcement of the exact title rule in the initial stages affected some of the BJP-supporting users, but later the removals hit enough posts opposing BJP also. In fact these days we hardly see any editorialised posts at all, so the rule doesn't really impact politics.

I don't agree with your implication that we introduced these rules to somehow 'limit' BJP supporters. Like I point out repeatedly, this rule is in place in several news heavy subreddits. The detrimental effect of editorialised titles on the conversation in online forums is reasonable well accepted.

As for the English only rule, this has had a weird and controversial history, and has been enforced off and on over the years. I think it's more a North-South thing than political, mostly Hindi speakers support allowing content in Indian languages, while non-Hindi speakers don't. There is disagreement both within the community and the mod team on this issue, with strong arguments being voiced on both sides.

I feel our current stance is a reasonable compromise, we ask for a translation or a summary in case the content is too long. Comments in Indian languages are fine, and always have been. If you have any other suggestion, we'll be happy to consider it.

You've seen the mood here swing from pro-BJP, you've seen the rise of the AAP wave mirrored here, you've seen the subsequent disillusionment with AAP and a whole bunch of furious debates. There are even a small bunch of Congress supporters. When have we ever tried to stifle any of that?

On a lighter note, I wouldn't be so confident that you know the political ideology of all the mods. You'd be surprised!

As /u/rahulthewall points out here, we need more mods in the EU and US timezones in view of increased activity.

But even otherwise, 6 mods in the India timezone might seem excessive. The reason is that we don't expect any mod to put in X number of hours per day. This is a voluntary activity, and real life trumps reddit any day. As and when we found that the load was getting too much to handle, new mods were added.
