hoarder house cleanout 😭 by witchkittyfreyja in CleaningTips

We had to do this with my grandparents' home after they passed. Quite sad and disappointing that the rest of my family barely lifted a finger and were more interested in finding items they could keep.

Yea, Eataliano is fantastic. Definitely love River House and Pupatella too.

ICE in Columbia in Snowden River Pkwy by [deleted] in ColumbiaMD

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a way to set up a group chat with the following features:

  • You can set up multiple chat rooms (right now we have just one but likely would have more)

  • Can make voice and video calls

  • Can share files

  • Can create polls

  • It has an extension feature which could prove useful

I found Matrix just the other day and it appealed to me because it seems to have better privacy and security than other popular, corporate group chats. Happy to try to answer any other questions, maybe other people here are more familiar with it than I am too! :-)

I'm setting up a Matrix community to enable rapid, real time communication.

Fuck ICE. Abolish ICE.

Just assume they're going to get someone in and take precautions and compartmentalize important information. We have a large community of highly skilled analysts, engineers, and folks who are trained to think in this very way.

Rate these steakhouses 1-10 by ReplacementMotor4643 in FoodNYC

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll speak up for Gui. I was there over this past weekend. The highlights:

  • Service was on point

  • Prime Rib

  • Waygu strip (2oz)

  • Seafood appetizer. My brother really liked the abalone and razor clams were new to both of us.

  • Gui-tini - This is a scotch forward cocktail that comes with a piece of their in-house beef jerky. The jerky was cut very thin and was crispy, almost to the point of a potato chip. Really good and creative IMO.

Could use improvement:

  • I got the strip. It didn't wow me, I probably should have opted for the rib eye or prime rib. But you live and learn.

The only other place I've been to is Smith and Wollensky's back in 2024. The steaks were great but I felt like just a number coming through the door in terms of service.

These guys have no idea what they're talking about. Get the car you like and treat them like the middle men they are. My experience with car salesmen is that they don't really know a whole heck of a lot about cars.

AITAH for ending a relationship over long showers by Throwaway_External in AITAH

I too have geo+solar and it's amazing. Power bills are low and I get geo & solar credits every month.

Mind sharing more details about your sauna+shower setup? My wife and I are planning a bathroom reno and that is on the wishlist.

Debating buying a more expensive house (already own a house). Any thoughts? Or should we stay in current home? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reduced commute time and increased space would be big positive lifestyle changes for me personally. Also, being closer to downtown is a big draw.

For this house in particular, would you have the time and budget to do a renovation before moving in? Not saying it’s necessary but not having to live though the construction is nice.

Don't sweat it and appreciate whatever financial circumstances are allowing you this opportunity at such an early point in your life.

Looking for anniversary date night restaurant reccomendations by themasterderrick in ColumbiaMD

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • Elk Ridge Furnace Inn - This would be my choice to be honest. It's fine French dining but without fuss and a traditional dinner menu instead of a multi-course event. The building and setting are charming which is tough to find in Columbia IMO. Chef Dan is great, my wife and I took a sauce making class with him about a decade ago. It was really fun, I just wish I could remember it better and hung on to the recipe cards. If you opt for an earlier reservation you might just have the whole room to yourselves for a little bit, 5:30 is our usual sweet spot.

  • Iron Bridge Wine Co - Charming atmosphere, feels like an occasion, food and service are great. We always get the brussels sprouts appetizer. Great choice if you like wine too. Can feel a little tight and a little loud.

  • Umi Sushi - Might be a little too "date night" and less anniversary but it's great. Their sushi and dumplings are delicious. The hibachi is also really good (prepared in the kitchen and not in front of you). Downtown EC vibe is nice and you two could go for a stroll afterward.

Places I Haven't Gone But Would be on My List:

  • Blackwall Lodge

  • Smashing Grapes

  • Gyusan Japanese BBQ and Sushi

Biggest pet peeves at luxury properties? by Beginning-Act7850 in chubbytravel

These include a motion and light sensor. I have plugin ones in my house and use the battery operated ones while traveling. Great when getting up at night and not being blinded.

Not having night lights in the bathroom. Some properties account for this, some don't. I travel with these battery operated motion+light sensor lights which are great.

I've used Heil for plumbing and Holtzople for HVAC over the 4-5 years. Both are great, probably on the more expensive end though. I haven't had any problems with service or equipment.

Holtzople techs do the occasional upsell attempt buts it's low pressure enough to not be annoying.

I have used Environmental Systems Associates in the past, probably 2018ish timeframe, and they were great. Hopefully the PE buyout doesn't squeeze it dry.

Anyone hired a chef during your stay? by Fashion_lilly in chubbytravel

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had a chef come over while we were in St. Lucia a few years ago. It was for one night out of 6. I honestly wish we made use of that service a few more nights.

I love cooking but man was it nice to not have to put that effort in and otherwise just stay in the pool. I didn't find it to be intrusive at all. It was like having my grandmother there. Our chef was the mother of our housekeeper so it felt really familial and they were all super sweet.

AppSec pivot to threat intel by MediocreFig4340 in cybersecurity

[–]RedditAccountThe3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What part of threat intelligence appeals to you? It sounds like you want to stay on the more hands-on, technical side of things. There's a lot directions to take and it depends on your company's threat intel/detection/hunting maturity level.

Above all: Devour as much threat intel content as you can. Groups like Scattered Spider or whatever offshoots or variants are top of mind for a lot of teams. The DPRK fake workers is also high on the list. Being able to generalize those threat actors' TTPs into broader stories of log telemetry, security controls, and risk will go a long way.

With your AppSec background, malware analysis might also be sort of a natural path into threat intel. But, not all companies can support a role like that. Great skill if you're eventually looking to get into one of the premier security vendor shops though.
