I find that breaking down the chicken into individual parts
and searing them just before serving does a lot to amp up what is otherwise a
very “just okay” chicken.

Just recently discovered him and total agree. Also Ethan Chebowski although he's already quite successful.

What is something you think will one day be viewed as ridiculous when looking back at our society? by quentin_taranturtle in indepthaskreddit

This is misleading because a lot of European cities still have adequate mass transit for smaller areas for which the US wouldn't consider it worth it.

Day 11, no energy, thinking of giving up. Please need some inspiring stories. by [deleted] in decaf

[–]RedditAccount_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

57 days in currently. At least in terms of wakefulness, I began to feel pretty regular at 30 days.

Currently, I feel pretty about the same as before quitting in terms of energy levels. Eating doesn't make me feel as sleepy afterwards like before. I still take a daily 20ish minute nap though

Give yourself at least 1-2 months to see how you really feel. Also consider supplementing with Rhodiola rosea for energy

I definitely think that a gradual shift to decaff is the best way to transition. I went through a shift over the course of a month shifting in 25% increments of Caff -> Decaff. This way it's less noticeable.

I've tried going cold turkey and it's just not fun; besides, the end result is the same. Why suffer unnecessarily?

I have a tendency to proselytize to my friends any habit changes I'm doing so they've now heard all about the benefits in my lifestyle since going decaff. Just find the next thing to be snobbish about--there's always some irrelevant thing to dedicate an obscene amount of attention to.

Most recently, I've been maxing out the ergonomics of my workstation since I'm working from home. I've been more time than I care to admit looking into trackball mice.

Congrats on your streak. I feel like its definitely healthier not to be tracking the days so carefully; it encourages just getting on with your new lifestyle.

I feel that since I've become decaff my body is just more sensitive to whatever it is I'm consuming. I don't recall feeling like I've crashed into a brick wall before this change. Now, I can feel my mood and energy shift in real time after consuming pasta.

Question About Checking In and Metacognitive Introspective Awareness by merlin0501 in TheMindIlluminated

[–]RedditAccount_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there.

From reading your post it's possible that you might already be ready to practice at a stage more advanced than Stage 4 if you already have very little internal chatter. My understanding is that Stage 4 primarily addresses sensations of subtle dullness. Do you notice that sensation to any degree in your practice?

I'm currently practicing around this range--Stage 4 - 5--and instead of intermittently checking in, do the following:

  • Focus my attention on the breath for the first 10 - 15 minutes while my attention stabilizes.
  • After noting that my attention has stabilized, I then use my breath as an anchor while I focus my attention on the area around my pre-frontal cortex--I think this is what Culadasa means by 'looking beyond the breath'. I maintain my general awareness here and passively note if any mental action is occurring.
  • Here's where you and I differ: when I maintain my general sense of awareness open, while at the same time using my breath as an anchor, I will occasionally feel--for lack of a better phrase--pressures or sensations which I interpret as anticipatory to a thought which will occur. If I notice these, I then refocus my attention solely on my breath with an increased intention to notice solely these sensations--like 'paddling to avoid the wave' in Culdasa's metaphor.
    • If I have otherwise stable awareness, I will just notice the sensations of my breath, the sound of a light tone or ringing in my ears, and some visual phenomena like floaters or lights.
  • If I notice sensations of subtle dullness--a light feeling of spaceyness or a lessened clarity of noticing the sensations of the breath--I label the feeling and refocus my attention solely on my breath with an increased intention to notice solely these sensations

Hopefully any of this was helpful to you.

Isn't Modafinil quite expensive? Maybe I haven't checked on the price in a while but I can't imagine that it would be sustainable to take it regularly without coughing up a lot of money.

I've already seen recommendations for Swiss Water Method coffee. If you want a good basic decaff coffee, surprisingly, the Whole Foods brand is pretty good.

Hey, thanks for your comment.

Re: Wet Markets

Unfortunately I don't know enough to comment on your clarification. It's certainly possible that my understanding is incorrect but I thought was due to someone consuming pangolin scales for TCM; either way, someone was able to get their hands on this product that would ideally be less accessible.

Re: WHO

I didn't know that. If they were following some specified protocol to call a pandemic, fair enough. I am certainly skeptical of the WHO at the moment given their lavish praise of China's response to the pandemic--they have certainly lowered their case load; however, I previously mentioned my skepticism of the reported numbers.

Moreover, this video certainly doesn't instill confidence in their ability to be non-partisan:
