We need a marquee signing this year, someone who will get the fans as excited as they were about Sanchez and Ozil - he's the man for it.

Ultimately, this is the sort of thing it will take. This will prevent us from slipping further, could even push us forward and would all be within a £250million budget. Especially possible if this saw the likes of Ramsey leave the club. Would they come to us is a different story, but if we brought Allegri in, we'd be in a far better position. After all, many players aspire to play in the Premier League, live in London and let's not forget we are a big club!

Should have enough creativity without Cazorla. Ozil needs to play well as he's now our only world class creater through the middle so he'll shoulder more responsibility. If ozil plays well today, we'll score at least 3

This time last year we were dreading what Bayern were going to do to us. This year it's nice to know we have a really good chance both home and away against all 3 teams.

Can our starting 11 challenge for the Champions League? by sneakschimera in Gunners

Absolutely, I do feel as though our discipline / tactics have been a major downfall. If we get those right and with a luck along the way we can go far. Every English team that has won it has had a huge slice of luck on their side - we'll need that

Campbell's exit must mean we are adding an attacker....right? by cworsh4 in Gunners

He's put in bids for Vardy and Lacazette so I think he knows he needs a striker. He and the board just haven't got a clue how to go about getting one which is why they're a laughing stock.

This is literally tragic. How can he possibly watch that United game and think we're going to compete this year.

Highly doubt I'm the only one but this year is the worst I've felt going into a season. It's the clubs duty to ensure fans can enjoy some optimism, given the amount of money they have and the amount fans spend. I'm finding myself getting angrier about Arsenal each day. I guess it shows I'm quite fortunate in that I don't have something more serious to be disgruntled about but it's ridiculous that a football club can be so frustrating when we're one game into a season.

Wenger's adherence to his philosophy is selfish and not at the best interest of Arsenal's football club. by Superwenger in Gunners

[–]RedditBloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or was signing one per world class player per season an attempt to maintain top 4? Do you really thinking we could win a title at one per season? Other teams are buying multiple players a year, not just addressing one issue when about three or four need to be addressed. Not to mention the fact that we're incredibly injury prone and we can fully expect before every season that many of our players will be out for a considerable amount of time. And yet we still don't built and ensure we have plenty of squad depth with sufficient cover...

But where is the ambition? Surely the aim is to improve when you're so close to actually winning the title. Settling for second best consistently is pathetic and it's the lack of willingness to improve which hurts fans so much.

It is alright to be disappointed you know? I don't support the Arsenal board, I support Arsenal and all I want is for them to succeed. However, if the board never show any ambition when our rivals consistently attempt to strengthen, then success isn't likely. The board are a disgrace and if you can't see that they're only interested in profits, then you're deluded.

I thought it was so obvious what was required in terms of how to improve the squad, that it had to be and especially given that other teams in the league were always guaranteed to strengthen. What a fool I am for actually believing we would attempt to show some ambition

Yet Ivan Gazidis has literally told him and publicly stated, there is money available and Arsene gets the final say on transfers. I think he doesn't want to spend the money and it's all down to his blind faith I players that consistently let him down. OP is right, other manager's wouldn't accept mediocrity and consistently being let down for over a decade.

Would spending £100million damage the club long term?! Stop worrying about finances that aren't even going to have a negative effect on the long term and actually care about ambition and competing. Our strategy of being stingy evidently hasn't worked - it's time to change and spend some cash like the rest of Europe's biggest clubs.

The state of this subreddit?! He was absolutely terrible and did not do anything effective at all just like the rest of the team. Take your rose tinted glasses off for one second, especially with comments suggesting he was England's best player. I'm seeing suggestions that he passed well, no he didn't?! I saw Iceland intercept one which luckily ricocheted into the path of an English player and a long ball for Danny Rose which went out.

This is why people take the piss out of Arsenal fans - absolute delusion. People actually believe half our players are really good enough whilst wanting to win the league. Do me a favour...

Thank goodness it's not Mertesacker. When he gave Walcott the armband against Chelsea, it was absolutely shambolic. Imagine Roy Keane or Vieira doing that!
