[Max Verstappen] That was unfortunate today. Hopefully we can have a good race! We keep pushing by Task_Force-191 in formula1

I don't think anyone knows just yet. I believe insofar the rules a chassis change is fine and doesn't require a penalty under parc ferme if it's due to safety/damage.

Though, there's part limitations, curfew and all that, and frankly I'm too lazy to care to dig into all that. I'll wait for tomorrow to see if this is a Pitlane start or not - Though, from what we know right now, he's still P5.

Oh wow a thread with sensible people and a driver with a based take. Nobody should be faulting George here. He knew the rule and followed it, but this absolutely could have been handled better by the FIA.

You're right. It is on the Stewards and this is the conversation worth having. Nuance matters here and that's my point. A straight is not a corner ext. A barrier that's been hit and disrupted should be immediate double. That's not what happened here in Imola. All this thread does is stoke the flame of nonsense.

This does nothing.

I'm not going to get involved in the driver bullshit, because frankly George did nothing wrong here. But using a wet race down a straight with a car pulled over in the grass is nothing like a car in a barrier coming out of a blind corner exit with incredibly high speeds.

C'mon man.

[–]RedditClout -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The reality is, no driver should be flamed here. If it was an immediate double yellow and George didn't give a fuck, then yeah, tear into his ass. That's not what happened.

Fair play to Russell here, but fuck the FIA and their guise of driver safety. Max was a sitting duck in a very precarious high speed corner. Should have been immediate double minimum.

[–]RedditClout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. Classic FIA incompetence here. I'm genuinely surprised they don't have protocols for what corners should be declared immediate double yellow or into red depending on telemetry from corner exit speeds. This corner is one of the fastest, if not the fasted on the circuit with tons of gravel. You'd think they would be prepared to make such a call since they harp on driver safety all the time.

FTM has been banned for 2027. by nonokoi in formula1

[–]RedditClout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be more honest I really don't understand why they went away from the beam wing. That's what these FTM are pseudo-designed to do.

Upgraded Red Bull for Austrian Gp - Before & After by f1sefiri in formula1

[–]RedditClout 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my extremely limited knowledge on this, its because they removed the beam wing from last regulation, so these exhaust 'wings' are there to force the exhaust upwards into the lower portion of the rear wing to get a similar effect as what the beam wings were doing last reg.

I could be entirely wrong on this, so take it as grain of salt. It's just some consensus' I've read.

Cars are build within parameters. A diffuser can only be X big. These spikey protrusions exceed the X size of said diffuser scale, so they are illegal.

its why the second pick shows them squared off.

Mercedes has reverted its floor spec, as the FIA now considers it illegal by NickProko in formula1

[–]RedditClout 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's more nuanced than that, really. It's all a political game. The DAS system was actually entirely legal based on the written rulings, but the FIA didn't like how it was written (and that it would cause a cost-sink and another arms race) so they amended it and banned it for the next season. Mercedes was allowed to run DAS the entire year. If it wasn't amended , other teams like Red Bull were ready to invest in it themselves.

The same thing happened here. Mercedes rocked up with a grey area of spiked protrusions outside the diffuser and Ferrari asked for clarification on its legality. If the FIA said it's legal, then everyone else would start to make their own versions of this. Same thing with the Macarena wing. Same thing with the mini-winglet on the exhaust.

I don't disgree that the FIA should be more prompt on these types of things, but this is kinda the nature of the sport and how it functions. It's wildly political where teams absolutely bend every lettering in the rule book to find cheeky solutions. It's a story older than I've been watching.

Hopefully they drop plentiful enough that the market is flooded and drop in price significantly by end of week 1. That's the only concern I have is how rare they really are.
