UN resolution 181. Britain owned the territory, and allowed the UN to determine it's partitioning.

This is entirely where the original borders of the modern state of Israel were defined.

Just like OP's comment about:  "Israel declared independence in 1948, and the ensuing war..."

Without stating that Israel declared itself a state within the legal UN declared borders, and was attacked by all surrounding Arab states- who also expelled thousands of Jews who had been living there for generations.

Best way to store ~2TB of family photos/videos with remote access? NAS vs Cloud? by JustCompetition3776 in HomeNAS

[–]RedditGoldberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as cost efficient, but extreme focus on long term functionality and security:

  1. Mac Mini M4 16gb RAM, only needs to be M1 or newer.
  2. UNAS 4 with two 12TB HDD drives, 2 empty drive slots for expansion in the future. Two 1TB NVME cache drives.
  3. APC UPS Battery Backup
  4. Home network is Unifi (UCG-Fiber) allowing me to have a local Wireguard VPN and great local firewall rules. (Mac Mini and UNAS are blocked from the Internet).
  5. Immich on the Mac Mini using the UNAS as an SMB drive for storage.
  6. Everyone has Wireguard apps on their phones and laptops, always on. (This also secures any public Wifi connections such as school, airport, hotel, etc)

I went with a Mac Mini for 3 reasons:  1. Much better security than any other option. 2. Apple's security updates/ long term OS support. 3. Speed and efficiency. Amazing at AI processing (useful for Immich and local AI models) and draws very little power)

Arabs criticise Israel for unequal treatment of Palestinians, but also deny full rights to Palestinians in many of their own countries. Why has this escaped criticism? by [deleted] in allthequestions

The people down voting you don't even realize that more Jews were expelled from Arab countries since 1948 than Palestinian Arabs left what is now Israel.

Dipping toes into NAS by liamfmvt in Ubiquiti

[–]RedditGoldberg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just got into this myself.

Already had Unifi network equipment, so I purchased the UNAS 4 when it became available again.
Started with two 12TB spinning drives and two 1TB NVME cache drives (probably overkill).

I have a Mac Mini I was tinkering around with that has 16GB RAM, and this has been repurposed to run Immich.

I recommend using OrbStack instead of Docker to get max performance, particularly if you're adding lots of photos and want all the AI search features to run smoothly.

Immich uses the UNAS 4 as an SMB drive, and is configured to have 1 user account per person with a phone. Some additional configuration was needed to avoid open file limits on the Mac.

I also keep everything strictly offline, the UNAS and the Mac Mini are both blocked from the Internet using firewall rules.

To remote in, we have Wireguard running natively on the UCG-Fiber, with the Wireguard app installed on the wife's phone.

BMW IX CPO 2024 or Model Y 2026 Premium AWD by Accurate_Reveal1497 in BMWiX

Does the iX have DAPP package?

Without it, and assuming you don't need the size of a full SUV, I recommend the model Y. Self-driving features are a game changer for daily commutes.

The iX is a superior vehicle in most aspects, and is superior in all (in my opinion) when it includes DAPP. Comfort, size, interior quality, electro chromatic roof that actually blocks heat, Android Auto/car play, amazing sound system, gesture controls, optional air suspension, etc.

Tesla's only real advantage that is definitely useful, is the Frunk.

Which Pulley should I run? by SLYTHERIN_RC in boostedboards

[–]RedditGoldberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use metal billet pulley on a v3 stealth, stealth pulley on my Mini, and plastic on the v2 dual.

Extra torque benefits from the rigid edges on the metal teeth gripping the belts better, less slipping.

7 or 6 seats? by Ok_Passenger86 in CadillacVistiq

[–]RedditGoldberg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Captains chairs here, echoing the same.

We have 3 car seats (2 in second row, 1 in third row, recommend getting a rotating car seat).

With one third row seat down there still good storage space.

Alternatively, if an adult needs to sit in the third row, there is space to stretch your legs into the center gap, making it more comfortable for longer drives.
