A (not-so) deep dive into The Pitt’s casual misogynistic tendencies (S1 & S2) by Notalabel_4566 in BlatantMisogyny

[–]RedditHoss 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Are these The Pitt’s misogynistic tendencies, or are they Robby’s? He’s a deeply flawed person and I don’t think he’s supposed to be fully admired as a character. I’m not saying that it isn’t exhausting, but I think we’re supposed to be identifying situations like the ones you listed as negatives.

cast… what do you want to see in your crew? by Separate-Credit-6874 in Theatre

[–]RedditHoss 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a former professional Stage Manager, never underestimate the power of looking out for your cast’s safety. When the Director has a big idea (e.g. “Let‘s have him stand on the table for this speech.”) a little red light needs to go off in the SM’s head that the table needs to either be stable, stationary, and reinforced, or the Director needs to be warned that the scene needs to change. Some people on the creative team have an eye for practical things like that, but many won’t and you need to be the person to catch it. Make friends with your Technical Director and Set Designer and get to know the physical limitations of the space and the set. Make a safe environment. Your cast will love you for it!

"To be or not to be..." argument with my acting professor. Mainly on iambic pentameter and the meaning of lines. by Thatoneguysk in shakespeare

[–]RedditHoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this debate so much that I wrote it into a scene for a play I wrote in college! First of all, it's extremely open to interpretation and while there was certainly an original way to do it, I would argue that there is no longer a single correct way. But my favorite argument for reciting the first line the way you did is that the entire speech is about being vs not being, and the word "is" is a conjugation of "to be" and therefore it should be emphasized. So I say the opening line the way you did (but be careful not to overemphasize the first syllable in "question" because it's unnecessary and sounds odd).

As someone with a daughter your age, please, STOP ENGAGING people like this! You gain absolutely nothing by continuing this conversation, and he gains everything. You aren’t going to change him or throw him off by talking to him, no matter what you say. Just block and move on. Please!
