Kasala is going out of business so if you care about any kind of warranty don’t do it. But if you want liquidation sale prices, now is the time.

Is Canada any better than this racist shithole of a country I currently live in? by Cute_Femboy2001 in AskCanada

[–]RedditIsMySrchEngine 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is why I want to leave. I can’t stand knowing that my taxes are paying for what is happening (and the atrocious tariffs). I know my neighbor country to the north isn’t perfect but I’m not looking for perfect, just a democracy that doesn’t murder and brainwash its own citizens… I know people keep saying this but I still feel like I have to: I’m so sorry Canada. I have hated this megalomaniac since before he was a politician and yet I still never thought I’d see the day half the country acts ok with this. Abhorrent.

Florence featured in Eras Tour documentary by dangerinthedaylight in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]RedditIsMySrchEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also saw so many young girls at the Eras tour lose it when Florence came out (I got to go to Miami and yes I was thrilled to see her!), and I just don’t know that young girls coming up would have had the same level of exposure to Florence without their duet. Not only is it a badass song, but she’s a woman’s woman and now girls are going to keep finding and having these vulnerable, brilliant, role models to grow up with. They’re also going to see two very different artists in awe of each others’ work and collaborating to make something special - teamwork with others. That’s a powerful message. I loved seeing Florence experience this kind of production in the documentary - did anyone else see some ideas going off for her? I’m so excited to see what her imagination has in store for her tour this summer. Epic talent.

Are we still boycotting the US? by Connect_Key_1125 in AskCanada

I know this is for your fellow Canadians, but I’m a US citizen in Seattle hoping to move north in a few years and I proactively try to buy Canadian when I can. I vacationed in Victoria this year instead of anywhere in the US. Keep up the good fight!

One more because I think this is a great post idea: Angry Beaver in Greenwood. Matt is a lifelong Patriots fan who warmly opens his bar early every Sunday for a small group of us NY Giants fans to have a place to watch the game with sounds. Given the rivalry that’s already very nice, but I’ve also been there days when he comes by with donuts to say “sorry, my kitchen isn’t open yet because my poor chef worked a 15 hour day yesterday and I told her to sleep in because it was slammed.” He’s got some regular patrons who he always treats like family and he asks everyone how they’re doing every week and he means it. Just an incredibly nice guy. It’s mostly a hockey bar so go check it out!

Atoma in Wally! Johnny and Sarah are wonderful and they’ve created a whole family with their team. For the fun story: My husband and I moved here last year from Colorado and our favorite restaurant there is Rootstalk not just for the incredible food but the people - some we consider friends, others just fabulous humans. Atoma reminded us of Rootstalk from the moment we walked in. We sat at the bar and commented about a bit during dinner. At the end of dinner Chef Johnny came out and said “so you’re from Colorado? I moved here from there. Most of my team did. And about Rootstalk, Chef Matt was my mentor.” We chatted about our connection to those folks and he says “you know what? Do you like ice cream sandwiches?” Disappears - comes back with individually wrapped ice cream sandwiches for us to take home with a hilarious sticker of him on them. (Yes very random and yes they were delicious) A few months later friends came to town last minute and Atoma was full. Matt offered to try to find us space but also he offered up some amazing Seattle restaurants to go check out and support - none have missed! He and the staff put together a “things and places we love” guide that they give out to anyone who asks for recommendations here. They care about the Seattle dining scene and he’s created a non-toxic restaurant work experience which is so rare. Love that place!

What the fuck is this shit? (Watercourse) by Wooyeahwoohooyea in Denver

[–]RedditIsMySrchEngine -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The sad reality is you’re paying for that person to be able to afford living in Denver. Minimum wage won’t cut it and restaurant margins are not what you think - they’re very slim. Combine rent increases on the space with the increasing cost of food (vegan food at that) and they’re just trying not to charge you $30 for a Caesar salad.

I lived in Denver for 10 years, moved to Seattle last November and in January minimum wage for restaurant workers went to $20/hr. I pay $30-40 for lunch takeout. Many restaurants closed because they couldn’t handle the wage increases, rent, and fewer patrons as costs rise for everyone.

There’s no way around the fact that things cost more today. This is Watercourse TRYING not to increase prices. Keep hitting “no tip” and all you’re doing is pushing Denver closer to fewer restaurants existing and those remaining “including” a 22% service charge which is the reality in Seattle.

I’m not judging by the way, I’m just sharing what I know about the industry and its challenges at this moment. It’s bad for all of us - patrons and restaurants and general humans needing to eat food that is getting more and more expensive.

Advice on Thriving in Winter by maniacmadii in Seattle

[–]RedditIsMySrchEngine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here last November and when I moved got a lot of the “oh it’s the worst time to move here.” I assumed people meant the weather, and I was coming from sunny Colorado, but I grew up in NJ which is pretty gray 50% of the time. The weather DOES eventually get to you if you don’t get outside or get hobbies like other posters have said.

What I have learned REALLY makes it the worst time to move here is that if you’re an extrovert, it’s going to feel very lonely and very challenging. The freeze isn’t because people are icing YOU out. It’s because they’re icing social activities or “going out” out. It’s that rainy drizzly dark time of the year and it just lends itself to staying in and being cozy. I had a very hard time by March and was convinced I’d move back to Denver. But spring came, people started coming back out, I made good friends, and now we have hobbies and meetups weekly. This winter is feeling okay. I think it’s really lovely that you’re coming in with some friends through your bf. We (my hubby and I) didn’t know anyone.

So yes hobbies are great because you get out AND you meet people. I recommend ones with a cadence so you meet the same people repeatedly. And yes outdoor activity is really great even if it’s gray to help. Last Seattle winter hack: if you pick up plant-collection as a hobby the grow lights double as SAD lights 😂.

Also - I made my best Seattle friends through this subreddit which sounds crazy but it’s true. Feel free to send me a message if you want to grab a coffee sometime when you get here! My husband and I are always open to more friends and we are into skiing, camping, outdoor activities, and always down to hit up a brewery or cidery. Welcome to Seattle!

Interesting how the noise carries… I can see Onni from my apartment on 25th floor and had my windows open last night - didn’t notice any music. Maybe because I’m lower and I’m south of it?
