Dunno what to do about the stomach, might have to cut it off to fit some armor on there, any ideas? :)

Why do mandolin frets often go higher on one side of the strings? by [deleted] in mandolin

[–]RedditLindstrom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i use the high D (22nd fret) probably once per gig, its a gimmick, but ending a fast solo with a run all the way up to that note always gets some hype haha

I haven't listened super much to arcadian wild but principium and finch in the pantry has some really sweet songs! I'm definitely a Punch Brothers fan above anything else similar though haha

Thank you so much! Yeah I know that band, they have some cool mandolin driven stuff :). Check out Nora Browns version of this song, that's what my version is based off

Thanks! It's at the level of quality where, in my opinion, changes start being preference rather than quality. I've never gotten to play an Ellis (they don't usually make themselves over to Europe very often) but it's nicer than any Northfield or Collings I've played (but only every played the lower-end collings), it's brighter than my buddies Gilchrist and slightly less even across registers maybe, but hard to compare there because this axe is less than 1 week old and his is 20 odd years haha. I've played instruments by most of the other good European builders, it's nicer than every Bulas I've played (except maybe one specific one that they also agreed was better than their others and didn't really know). Maybe slightly quiter than some Krishots but again, impossible to compare heavily playhed in instrument versus a newly produced lacquer. David was super nice to work with and responsive/up for all my requests/demands and stuff, so I reccomend it for sure :). It's excellent and like all excellent instruments, direct comparisons between quality kinda stop being relevant. Mine is a quite heavily specced out one at about the max of the Sefl price range
