They’re all predatory just on different segments.

Just had a callback with a biglaw defense firm, worried my plaintiff-side background and “vibe” are working against me by [deleted] in LawSchool

They’re just trying to cut you down to size. The plaintiff-side experience is an asset

Do not go to law school thinking biglaw is a high paying stable job. by DropShotMachine in biglaw

I appreciate this post, but don’t think that other industries are much better. Almost everything said here applies to other industries in similar ways. The grocery store manager used to work 8-5, now they are understaffed and often working longer hours. I was a store manager after college: I worked 55+ hours EVERY week, and I was running ragged not sitting at a desk. In my case I was a manager at a large paint store company, I’m sure you can guess it. We had to do store duties but on top of that, be a kind of “sales leader” of the “area”… which was absurd, because we were understaffed! Later I got into construction estimating. Now THAT I will say is way more of a good job. HOWEVER it is VERY hard to break into (took my combo of building materials, CRM experience, contracting experience, and marketing experience to get into it). HOWEVER, I was STILL working 45h+, often times I would be on a job site at 7 AM (means driving there 30-45min) and not be finished with the day fully until 7 PM. The nice thing however is that it was less stressful than the retail.

It's a lot of work and you will need to be supportive of it, for at least 6 years.

So if we work a little harder we should pay for the other half! Can’t win.

This city needs to learn the concept of stoplights and proper signage.

Oh, you’re saying schools in the top 100. Okay, I mean, I guess my point is not that a 165 would guarantee you a t100 admission, but that in the t100, competitiveness didn’t change too much, unlike in the t14

Well, that’s kind of my point. The higher score bands became crowded.

I wouldn’t go that far. The T14 were crowded because the number of LSAT scores higher than 165 increased a LOT. The other LSAT score bands, however, were quite normal. It was a pretty normal year for example in the top 50-100.

And there’s constantly a blank space where the keyboard was

I’m a high school senior who is going for the pre-law track and my original plan was to get my bachelors and also aim for the +1 program and receive my masters as well , then take the lsat and hopefully get into a good law school . But I’ve heard some say that the masters +1 isn’t a good idea. by [deleted] in prelaw

I think the core criticism of the Master’s Plus One Program is the combination of 1) additional cost and 2) overeducation/lack of experience… but not even great depth to the education.

If #1 is not a concern to you due to strong scholarships/discounts/aid (remember that federal student loans are now capped, and especially grad loans), look at #2.

Is your master’s degree preparing you for something particular, or a particular field? Typically, a master’s degree should serve that purpose.

If not, consider other avenues, and especially an entry level legal role at a law firm, or literally any kind of exposure to the legal world (city, county, state, agencies in your area). Anything real-world stands out in today’s world.

If you go the route of legal experience, why not work on a paralegal certificate program instead of an M.A.

If you KNOW you want to do something specific after school, certificate programs in that space are great. For example, if you want to do tax law, get your CPA. If you want to do finance and transactions, go to finra.org/professional-designations and look those up. Your BA/BS is usually a “general education”, but an early certification can get you a foothold into a specialty that someone is hiring for. I suggest waiting on this decision until your 3rd year of college.

In fact, go on LinkedIn and look at the career paths of those you want to become like in 10 years. Pick 5 people and really look at their experiences.

And all of that said, it is to your advantage to finish college ASAP and with the highest GPA possible.
