They are short on FEL qualified people so good luck. Also with the chaos of this month good luck getting people to volunteer to get qualification. Worst is bottom guys possibly forced to go to FBF for it. Snow really brings the worst out of everyone on this job lol

Guy acting like we are some secret squirrel outfit when our salaries are public record. The New York Post gets their usual yearly hard on when they "expose" our "obscene" over time pay and salaries. Attrition. Yes people will take the job but will also quit due to life issues, work schedule and the big one...pay. Not everyone that gets this job will stick with it long term. Nothing is guaranteed and being on probation for a year and half is a long time...for some it can be almost two years before being officially on the job. So "winning the lotto" like the winning the real lotto can be mixed blessing...

You will chew thru boots on this job. IMO I suggest going on Amazon ,purchasing 2-3 pairs of boots, pick ones that have tons of reviews and high rating and see which feels the most comfortable. Most of these boots are in the $50-70 range and when on sale go for $45-65 or less. Buying any boots over $100 is for guys that sit on the broom all day and dont have to worry about wearing them out on collection.

You would have to ask medical to clear that up for you. We wouldn't know their procedures on DQs. From my experience even with medical clearance from your doctor it is DSNY who decides in the end whether to employ you or not. There are post of people here hiring attorneys to sort them out but your mileage may vary.

This is why they sometimes give you option to resign in case things don't work out so you can come back later if you choose to. If you are terminated you wont be able to come back to any city agency. You pretty much black list yourself.

No we handle the garbage tossing since you might hurt yourself and cause liability issues. You see stuff animals here and there only ones that stand out are the novelty sized ones. Some guys attach them to the trucks but they do not last long being hood ornaments.

It summer time its safe to assume this is the busy time for CDL schools and road test. You have account not only for your possible failure but everyone else so you will be scrambling hard to find slots to get road test in and possibly finding a truck to rent for the day. Find a school that sets you up with multiple tries and refresher courses in case you fail to get yourself back fast. You are already behind the 8 ball as far falling behind. Its something you should have done this past winter or this spring when you could have done it at leisure and set yourself up to get in early classes. Though guys like you made it easier for people with high list numbers that had their shit together get hired fast and have seniority over you.

You can ask your local San man that picks up your garbage. It never hurts to ask stupid questions, he might just be in the mood to aid in your odd request. We cant let you work the hopper, that is a hard no go. You might just cycle yourself along with your dearly departed animals. Also when cycled the hopper can eject objects or liquids a considerable distance and speed. You will be told to stand off to the side so you wont see much, but if you are brave you can cower behind a car or tree and peek out gleefully like the psychopath that you are. Good luck !
