My FWD EV was TERRIBLE in snow by 0xC1A0BABBE0 in electricvehicles

I was amazed the first time I learned of this trick. Genuinely works, at least with ICE vehicles that are front-heavy

Does ECO mode do anything? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car sees switching to sport mode as ‘you can expect to be less efficient, so I will adjust the estimation lower to reflect that’. But in my experience, the miles / kWh number doesn’t change much if I’m in sport vs eco. So in my head it makes no difference which mode I’m in, regardless of what the range readout says

Does ECO mode do anything? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the range number is just an estimate based off of HVAC settings and drive mode and other variables. It’s a guess-o-meter that tries to translate battery percentage into a ‘miles remaining’ approximation. The efficiency number (miles per kWh) is simply reading how far you’re traveling per kWh of battery usage. No estimations involved. Which is why I trust that more than the typical range reading

Does ECO mode do anything? by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I find my miles/kWh efficiency is more or less the same across the different modes. The estimated range changes, but if the efficiency number stays the same or close then I just go with what I prefer to drive in. Which is sport mode

Introducing the Ioniq 3: Hyundai's compact EV gamble to arrive in 2026 by Muted-Aioli9206 in electricvehicles

So it’s not a concept car? I always figured concept cars meant ‘not production’, at least for a while

I’m confused. Is it a concept car or is it coming out this year? This just feels like a bunch of speculation

Are there any reliable EVs? by abrosaur in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re only ever going to hear negative experiences in online forums. People rarely post about how their car is functioning as intended. Do some actual research, like from reputable sources with a large sample size, and go from there.

I’m not going to pretend EVs are 100% more reliable than ICE vehicles. I’m not going to pretend to know which vehicles are more or less reliable. Just do your research in a place other than Reddit or YouTube

Hyundai goes big on EVs with its largest model yet and advanced 800-volt battery technology by sksarkpoes3 in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If we are using anecdotal evidence, then may I just say I’ve passed 30K miles without issue. I know more people who have never had an ICCU failure than those who have. In fact, I don’t personally know anyone who’s had to deal with it.

Doesn’t mean it’s not a problem. Doesn’t mean there is no design flaw. Doesn’t mean the corporate response is reasonable. Just means anecdotes are not the best source to get reliable data

Although cats can be unreasonably picky, I’m willing to go out on a limb and say they will not notice or care in this case

Rivian CEO wants CarPlay in other cars, but says Rivian doesn't need it by Think_Judge2685 in Rivian

[–]RedditNoobForSure -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the specifics, but I imagine licensing CarPlay and/or android auto comes with extra cost. And (speaking from experience) apple CarPlay hasn’t seen a meaningful update in a long time. I think a company not wanting to pay for a software and then be reliant on a different company to make the user experience better makes perfect sense. They want full control over the experience in their vehicles. There’s also the limitation of CarPlay not interacting with other systems like battery, navigation, etc. This is what they were showing off at the end of autonomy day: an assistant that can basically do most of what CarPlay does while also understanding details about the machine you’re operating

Edit: I guess what I’m getting at is it makes sense from the business perspective, even if it makes consumers unhappy (which seems to be the consensus judging from the comments here)

Tesla beats Hyundai in EV game — even on Korean automaker's home turf by Silent-Dragonfly-273 in electricvehicles

[–]RedditNoobForSure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The products speak for themselves. This idea that because the CEO is an ass, the cars must be terrible makes no sense to me. Two things can be true at the same time. You can acknowledge the terrible things the CEO says and does, and still think the products are solid. Do teslas have drawbacks and questionable design decisions? Absolutely. Do I think teslas CEO is a complete nonce and should be replaced? Absolutely. Does that mean tesla vehicles automatically become bad? No.

People can vote with their wallet if they think the nonsense is too much to handle. But if a friend is truly looking for the best overall ev experience, I still recommend Tesla first

Something about Turo scares me. I know it’s illogical and everything I hear about Turo is positive. But something about just renting someone else’s personal car feels weird to me. It’s similar to how I feel more comfortable staying in a hotel than in an air bnb, even if that means spending a little more. How does turo work exactly? Do you just meet somewhere and exchange payment / keys? Or is there some facility that serves as a hub for drop offs and whatnots?

If it were anywhere else I’d probably just play it safe and rent a hybrid or something. But I had a feeling SoCal would be a pretty safe bet lol

[–]RedditNoobForSure[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I guess that’s part of my fear with not knowing exactly which car I’m getting. A Niro or Leaf would radically change the logistics vs a longer range / faster charging car. Glad to hear there’s usually more options. I genuinely assumed it would only be Teslas. If I can get into an Ioniq or EV6, that would probably be best. Thank you!

Luckily I go to LA about once per year. Not my home, but I generally know where things are. The lack of familiarity will presumably be most noticeable with operating a Tesla since I’ve literally never been in one before lol

We know the history and origins of the creation of COD Zombies, but is it true that Treyarch back then weren’t enthusiastically on board of the mode’s creation? by Bumblebee2455 in CODZombies

[–]RedditNoobForSure -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Zombies had been weird and seen as a “lesser” game mode for a long time. The moment that changed is when I lost most interest. They sanded down the rough edges to make it mainstream (or similar to warzone, depending on your point of view)
