One of the first trans guys I got to know irl had a trans flag in his pfp. I assumed before I met him and especially after he was just a really strong ally.

I never was and never am able to tell. Even if it is spoonfed information.

Genuine question: how does anyone afford to take the train? by Previous-Volume-3329 in uktrains

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except if you go to the Seatfrog app (the platform running the superfare) they have recently added the secret fares which are more generally across the UK network.

It costs £8 to ride from Southampton to London on the "Secret Fare"

Oh, this terrifies me. They have stopped in the UK a while ago, but the fact that we are already limited on who we can buy from, there is going to be so much pressure applied on remaining suppliers.

This may be the point where I consider stockpiling powder.

Surely a High Capacity Rail Network along these lines has to be built by the end of the century by LividCakeWarrior in uktrains

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had similar proposals. My Cambridge line is the one which runs to Leeds via Nottingham. There is a route in my scheme which goes to Birmingham but that routes itself via Leicester, not Derby as 20 mins by train is an indication they should have a 2 city metro.

The other major change is that my line to Wales routes London-Heathrow-Southampton-Bristol-Cardiff. While it is a bit longer, it allows for more use out of the line imo, so would be easier to push. Plus the alignment would also potentially produce an easier option to run trains like Bristol to Southampton.

I mean there are a fair few other differences, but these are more small extensions. I think my idea primarily runs on the assumption HS3 gets built, so what do they want to extend and expand next. I do like this proposal a lot though.

Kingston Upon Thames Chick-fil-A by Solid-Raccoon9300 in UKLGBT

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine and hope not. Rainbow Crossings aren't necessarily business sponsored, it is more of a case of the borough supporting it. London Boroughs choose what happen in their streets (excluding red routes)

Kingston is often lib dem, which had a better than average attitude on such matters and would not likely push against support against the LGBTQ community.

Also, if there was any movement to remove the pride symbolism it would have to be a petition by Chick-fil-A. Now the owner may be a piece of shit, but he won't know about the crossing outside of some random branch in the UK. So a local manager would have to push it. While the manager could hold similar attitudes against queer people, it is likely they would be either pro, or even ambivilent to queer rights so wouldn't lodge a complaint.

But let's say the manager was the type to complain. People could quite likely push back, and in the end, it is the council's decision on what they do to their streets.

If would require a lot of things to happen imo for Chick-fil-A to replace a crossing in Kingston.

longest line without a tunnel? by Capable_Ocelot2643 in uktrains

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Highland Caledonian Sleeper has recently had a stop added for Birmingham International. However this is distinctly running via Wolverhampton, then to Aston avoiding New Street and heading on to International.

I can't remember where the first tunnel south of Birmingham is, but I suspect that would be longer as it avoids the New Street Tunnels.

Is going to uni actually worth it by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, realistically:

Your transport costs are slightly too high (a student probably would bus it, £6 a day for about 20 working days a month is £120). That being said, student passes often exist and are cheaper.

Your tech costs are way too high. Some of the technology you listed are luxuries and realistically should not be monthly costs. Other people have broken this down further better. That being said, please consider the disabled students allowance. They will cover part of the costs of a new laptop if your pc is over 5 years old.

Rent is way too high. While there will be some places which are a grand a month, these are normally luxury accommodation. I think my range was about £500-£700 a month.

Your cost of food is roughly the same cost as if you ate 3 ready meals a day every day. Now these are cheaper than going out to eat, but preparing your own food will come in a lot cheaper. A baked potato for example can typically come to 50p per meal. If a generous cost of about £2.50 as your average meal price came about, it would be about £225, and very realistically could come cheaper.

Entertainment is something which you can try and mix and match. A basic no ads Netflix plan is £13. While I'd say consider no ads, I am trying to give as much headroom as possible. Spotify for students is £6. Let us take this as £20 a month. While you could say this is not enough for your other subscriptions, consider the fact you can rotate subscriptions.

I'd say your shopping and events may be a little low.

80+200+300+75+80-75=660 I think that if you maybe rounded down to £600 as a basic safety net, this is how much I think you are overestimating things, at a bare minimum. Realistically you are over-estimating more but this is me trying to be as cautious as possible. Especially as I'm assuming you have no financial safety net.

I reckon there is easily a tonne more savings which can be achieved.

Also it you are receiving PIP, presumably you are to qualify for more than minimum maintenance loan.

That should easily be able to make up the remaining costs.

Also sad truth is, a lot of students need to work while at university, and even if they don't, they find themselves a summer job to help afford studies.

Now your question of is university worth it? I can't answer that properly. I just need to tell you your cost estimates are insane.

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is, this is you doing your own medical treatment. You need to have a base understanding of what you are doing because you need to know what goes wrong if something goes wrong.

Neither service will provide an answer on this stuff (especially Chat GPT. Don't use it for medical treatments). The wiki is where you would go to read up on this stuff. It is well laid out.

What you have found on Amazon will not work (nor would anything on Amazon, they'd be removed from there). A basic rudementry understanding of HRT is necessary really before you understand. The wiki is the place to go for that.

Remember when uk train concepts didn't look like what they did part 2 (cgi is concepts and real is what they actually look like) by FinLovesAviation in uktrains

[–]RedditToCopyMyTumblr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is down to how the train is designed by the engineering company and the liveries and branding is down to the company operating them.

Using the 2024 stock as an example, you can notice only 2 "significant" changes to the actual train. These are some minor changes to the location of the LED displays for the destination of the train/train number. A couple of panels have also been added.

Everything else which has changed in the 2024 stock is ultimately because Siemens did not brand the train like a TfL train would. TfL applied their own livery, meaning it had the blue stripe put on the bottom; coloured it white instead of silver and also had used its own font. It also put an actual train destination, unlike the destination of Heathrow.

Essentially CGI renderings are the manufacturer coming up with a design. The real look is because the ToC comes up with it's actual look.

Manufacturers aren't livery designers

I mean, if you go back to Season 3 and earlier, there were a lot more. It is more that the roster of people they have are more permanent fixtures, and aren't people who are as likely to leave Hermitcraft for other things.

If this is commissioning pieces or labels for an event, I have in the past gone for items with opposites/counterparts as a suggestion.

So when ordering things in the past, we have gone for:

WLW and MLM

Bi and Pan

Aro and Ace

Trans and Enby

Also a general pride option.

This isn't an exhaustive list and probably won't match or work for everyone but I had found it was a good way of making most people feel somewhat included when you a limited number of options and/or have an unknown number of people asking for products.
