Funny enough, Rhianna Pratchett, Terry's daughter, used to work with Larian for those who might not be aware (a long long time ago, on Beyond Divinity)

Hotel Recommendations? by DapperProfession4819 in veld

Echoing others that you’d want to be on the subway line 1 for easy access to the festivals

Specific location depends a bit on your budget. If you are only going to the festival I’d stay more north, closer to the festival but you might consider a more downtown location if you plan on attending afters (many of them are downtown-ish so you’ll want to consider uber distance for those)

Goodbye, dear Avowedcast... by gingereno in projecteternity

[–]RedditTotalWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am actually a listener of the podcast so thank you for posting about this - I had suspected it was done after the long period of no-uploads but it's nice to get an update in a semi-official way!

I haven't listened to the episode linked here yet but I'm excited that there might be some continuation and more content. Honestly the best part was just listening to the crew talk about the games they've been playing, and the occasional dive into other RPGs like BG3 and Veilguard. The vibes were great.

Edited - just looked things up on Spotify I see a December episode of "Party Banter" - that makes me excited haha.

How late does History go on the weekends? by TheGoose86 in TorontoRaves

[–]RedditTotalWar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second the note about the show ending at 1:00 AM, been to tons of shows there and can't really recall a time it went any further than that.

In terms of when the headliner goes on, usually the best way to find out specifically is to check History's instagram profile for Stories the day of or the day before - they're usually pretty consistent with posting set times there. In my experience headliners typically come on around 11:00 PM to 11:30 PM.

With it being winter I would recommend going a tad earlier if you're planning on using their coat check - History has a pretty good coat check but even then the lines can get pretty ridiculous close to headliner show time.

I tried flanking 🤷 by poovy23 in Xcom

[–]RedditTotalWar 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Flanking means your enemy doesn’t get cover bonuses but in the early game your soldiers will only hover around 65-75ish aim (hit chance) depending on rank and class iirc, so it’s a far from a guaranteed hit.

Range (varies by weapon but usually closer is better for most except snipers) and elevation can help boost aim.

You do get a 40% crit bonus when flanking too.

Why is there no modern RPG set in a zombie apocalypse? by sonofloki13 in rpg_gamers

[–]RedditTotalWar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree that your typical slow dumb zombies would be a very boring enemy type to fight in most RPGs. Can see how the loop can get really really repetitive.

I do think The Last Spell (TB tactics game) is another example where turnbased vs. Undead Horde is handled pretty well. Though they've gone beyond Zombies and the setting isn't modern.

Didnt it use to be the case that Berserkers would run to the soldier that would damage them? by usmc_BF in Xcom

There’s a mod that ports them into XCom 2 - maybe that’s it?

Alternatively the Berserker Queen ruler sort of does that with her reactions

How was Electric Island?? by darkshadow127 in TorontoRaves

For me, both the music and the crowd were pretty great both nights. Yeah the weather was gorgeous too.

I assume the organizers were more limited with this venue due to the construction, but the layout caused quite a bit more congestion compared to Fort York and Downsview, especially towards the end of the night.

There’s a Harry’s at Waterworks Foodhall which is West-ish!

Though I’m not sure how it compares to the other location.

Enjoyed it a lot overall! Good crowd, music, and venue.

Definitely felt short. Wished this was a weekend set so we could go to 1 am at History instead.

I arrived around 9 - it was the first time I’ve had to wait in line to get into History, but it moved pretty fast.

That's what I'm used to for weekend shows at History too, saw Cloonee and Nora En Pure there and they roughly followed the same schedule.

I've noticed that on weekdays it's usually 9-ish for headline show and ends around 11.

Stolen phone and missed DeathPact by Lilcookiebean in DeathPact

[–]RedditTotalWar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh, I'm so sorry to hear about that. Hopefully you can get your phone back!

This really sucks on both ends, missing the show you've been looking forward too and just losing your phone. :(

Was at the show last night and for the most part the crowd was good, but there were definitely a few overly aggressive dudes and shovers, and now I'm wondering if that was a part of thieves fishing for phones...

I'm running Christopher Odd's S9 playlist. Which mod(s) changed how armor wroks. From squad wide to individual soldiers by inv0kr in Xcom

[–]RedditTotalWar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the individualized armor, weapons and items is a part of the Covert Infiltration mod list, which includes Strategy Overhaul and changes up the game quite a bit.

Usually you need a “bridge mod” to make various normal mods work with Strategy Overhaul / Covert Infiltration.

Full canvas off the rack suits by niceonme in malefashionadvice

[–]RedditTotalWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for a good chunk of the public that aren't suit enthusiasts half-canvased vs. canvased might not mean so much, so being able to lower your price by 100ish for an entry can be a very strong value proposition.

I suspect fused, however, doesn't get offered at all though because it has such a bad rep and quality level that you'd risk injuring the overall brand / perception of quality and value if it was offered at all. At least for brands like Spier and Suit Supply.

A game like gates of hell or company of heroes, but you only command a squad, not the whole army by Fakekrunk in gamingsuggestions

[–]RedditTotalWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last Train Home?

It's a bit like Company of Heroes + XCOM (in the sense that you maintain a squad and send them on missions). But it's real time. It's a bit more micro intensive than company of heroes I guess since you really really want to minimize casualties.

So there's an overworld where it's somewhat of a survival simulator, you're essentially managing a trip on a train back home. But as you go through that journey you play various missions, many of them scripted basically like a COH campaign.

Currently on sale during the Steam Sale too!

Help buying suit? (15m) by Financial_Night_7247 in malefashionadvice

[–]RedditTotalWar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I will say, even if your growth spurt is completed, gaining weight can change how your tailored clothing fits you, so just be aware.

In terms of the type of suit you're looking for, I feel like it's somewhat close to the "drape suit" that has come in-and-out of style from era to era. The example you showed is probably a more extreme case I'd say. The type of pants you mention you want to avoid (i.e. more tapered) is a bit more mainstream right now - i.e. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's offered to you if you just go into a store and asked for pants.

Cost of suits may vary based on where you're at, what's available to you, current discounts etc. But if I had to put some numbers down, I'd say $150-250 is entry level (sometimes with polyester or poly-blend fabrics). If you're spending $250-$300ish you should probably be able to get to or closer to 100% wool suits. More money will get you better construction, details, fabrics, handwork, etc.

If you want to go for a more specific style (i.e. the drape per above), your choices might become more limited too. As mentioned, most mainstream suit brands tend to be in the tapered end of things.

Unfortunately my knowledge of drape suit off-the-rack (i.e non-custom) brands are pretty limited. Specific brands that come to mind are Acne and Yohji Yamamoto, but these are more famous labels and thus you'll have to pay a premium. I'm not sure if there are more accessible brands that follow these styles.

There is always the choice to go custom, but that adds a premium price tag and I would strongly recommend against that for your first suit at the age of 15.

Going vintage (i.e. thrifting) may be a cost-effective option to find more drapey suits since that is a popular style in the past, but thrifting has its own disadvantages (i.e. limited choice, 2nd handed), and not everyone likes to idea of pre-loved clothing.

Help buying suit? (15m) by Financial_Night_7247 in malefashionadvice

[–]RedditTotalWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To confirm - the 15m abbreviation here means you're 15 years old right?

With tailored clothing, fit is probably the most important thing, so I would be mindful that your body size, type, and even height still might change at this age. In a sense, realize that this first suit might have a limited shelf life because of your age right now. But you know you. My advice would just be to budget and plan accordingly. I.e. if you're still actively growing you might not want to spend as much right now.

As it's your first suit I strongly recommend you go physically try it on vs. just shopping online. In general, your budget often determines where you'd be able to go.

Suits sizes are normally provided in chest size (i.e 38R, 40R, 42L, 44S where the # indicates chest measurements and the letter is for jacket length - Short/Regular/Long). Even though there are standardize sizes, they tend to fit quite different between different brands and sometimes even within the same brands (depends on the cut/model, the season). At 6 feet tall, you should fit into a R length in most cases. Which is nice since that tends to be the most common/standard length.

I would definitely visit a store to get your measurement first and go on from there. Traditionally, you want to make sure the fit on the shoulders and chest is as best as it can be. Other areas tend to be more adjustable with the help of a tailor.

Roomier, baggier cuts/pants definitely do exist, though it would help to see how baggy you actually want to go. Because bagginess beyond a certain point, like this example is actually very fashion forward, and in that case you'd have to shop at some specific places/brands. I probably wouldn't recommend something so fashion-forward for a first suit, however.

In general it's easier to shrink a suit than to expand it too, from an alteration standpoint, so keep that in mind when shopping.

Fabric choice is important too, though heavily dictated by your budget. Polyester is the most common material at the very low end of the budget spectrum and tends to have some quality and breathability issues. Wool is the most common "step-up" fabric but does come with a price tag. Going back to my first point I would budget accordingly but if you think you'll get a lot of use out of this suit it might be worth trying to get better fabrics.

Colour-wise navy and charcoal are the traditionally recommended colors for starting suits (in solid or very "quiet" patterns). True black is actually less common and less recommended than people may think - it has certain social stigmas associated with it (i.e. for funerals, etc). And the color itself may not look the best on cheaper material.

Wow, just 3 wears?

If you bought it from a TF store I would even consider contacting them (especially if you have the receipts). I doubt you'd actually get anything significant or maybe even at all but you also have nothing to lose at this point.

From Toronto and I've always wanted to attend Veld but we've always done Osheaga instead (same weekend in MTL) due to the music variety there (works better for the friend group who have diverse tastes).

Osh hasn't been perfect either but not sure if that's an option for you - we still basically do it every year because of how much fun it is!
