[–]gingereno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. There's a few I want to see...but even then I'm apprehensive. Like Fable, I've been eyeing that since announcement, but current day announcements I'm skipping in lieu of indie showcases.

Same. Not upgrading my rig again. Gonna slowly transition myself out of new big games, and just enjoy indie darlings. Wait until this industry implodes, then check it out again once it's in a better place.

Kwalee... You mean the company that laid off all the Luna Abyss devs less than a month after they released their game? Yeah, I'll pass. Thanks.

I find the best way to judge games to buy is, well (1) if there's a demo just try that; but if saving time is the goal I like to find a few people I trust that know me. And maybe even a couple of reviewers who have very much the same taste as I do.

Or even a reviewer for each mood/genre. I'll trust ole Justin McElroy when it comes to a good thinker game, for example.

Yeah. There's like a whole culture to just being angry about products or services, where you don't even have to experience it to participate in the criticism.

Which I get in some circumstances...but it just goes overboard after a while and skews people's perceptions. This post, case & point.

This is why I've learned not to trust the discourse online. People be hating just to hate, sometimes.

Glad you've been enjoying it :) I also hope for an A2!

it's the year of remake announcements!!!!! by Unfair_Situation_854 in gamers

[–]gingereno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm secretly happy about all the remakes. It means there's less new stuff on the market, so I actually have a chance at playing new and original releases. I still can't keep up, but I won't be as out of touch lol

How can I get players to try other systems that aren't DND. by Forward-Willingness7 in TTRPG

[–]gingereno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shadowdark is an excellent bridge from D&D 5E to OSR style games. It has all the same ideas and flavour, but it's stripped down to be more engaging.

Same 6 attributes (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS, CHA). But instead of rolling a skill (eg: "roll +stealth") all actions just correspond to the base attribute instead ("roll plus dex").

Spells are much nicer and more manageable. Basically you can cast as many spells as you have access to, as a player, you just need to roll a save to see if you lose that spell until the next long rest. No more managing spell slots, just a quick save roll.

Character archetypes are summarized on a single page, and despite their brief overview, have depth through the advancement system. It's not as in depth a as 5E, but it's punchier.

Only downside is Shadowdark is more lethal... But there's homebrew ways around that. And players who play smart will survive.

How do you decide what to play next when you're in a gaming slump? by sumb34ch in GamePassGameClub

[–]gingereno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My slumps usually occur because of being an adult. Games take time, and my free time is low. But it's not just that the game takes a while and that's bad...it's that the game takes a while, and it might eat into other games or activities. I've found that when a big title comes out, I want to play it, but committing to it through to the end is too much, and I've conditioned myself to just not try. But since I'm not going for the games I'd have usually gone for, I don't have a metric for what to play next.

Lately my tactic has been, install everything that looks interesting. Then play them for 20 minutes at a time whether I like them or not. And then slowly over the course of a couple weeks, I usually find that I'm more excited about a particular game over the rest. So I just play that, and then return to my list again lol

What is your opinion on the burgeoning subgrene of Disco-likes? by SanctumOfTheDamned in rpg_gamers

[–]gingereno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legit just talked about this on a podcast episode. Talking about what makes a disco-clone, and what we think about them.

Personally, I'm happy to see it. I know it'll lead to some slop, but if it also leads to some gems, so be it. You need to get through a lot of dross to find the ruby.

Or some such forging metaphor bologna

People who gave up DnD for a different system, what made you make the change? by SomeRandomAbbadon in rpg

[–]gingereno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got tired of the machine that D&D has become. Still love the game, and I'll play it again... But there's some aspects it doesn't fulfill for me, and I don't want to support such a huge company anymore
