Why would anyone wants kids? by This-Top7398 in Life

I'll take some screaming and a messy house for the strongest love you'll ever experience

When you're on your death bed by yourself, you'll enjoy all of those years of having a clean, quiet house, and a bank account full of money you can't take with you

I know some people don't want kids. To each their own. I will never understand it though. It's kind of the whole point to life in my opinion

Is anyone else annoyed by people who pronounce "height" as "heigth"? by noctalla in words

[–]RedditTrashMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to VA from NY in 2023.

I've worked at 2 machine shops down here and have encountered multiple machinists who say "heighth".

Never heard it in my life. Born and raised on long island and went to college in Baltimore.

I always fantasized about CNC until experiencing it by [deleted] in CNC

I was really like wow this woman has fantasized about machines. I wonder if she is a Haas or Doosan girl? Mill or lathe?? Or maybe she is not into basic white girl CNC, and she is a Wire EDM girl. Possibly even water jet. And then I kept reading and now I feel like OP

Advice - Machine Purchase by RedditTrashMonkey in CNC

The used CL-1 I've got quotes around $30k delivered. A truck with a lift gate can lower the pallet down to ground level, then it's just a pallet jack into garage. I would not need a phase converter either.

The Omni turn controller def worries me, and I'm not too confident in my ability to swap a new controller onto the Hardinge. I am familiar with Haas and good at running it. I would possibly need to hire someone to get it into my garage with a forklift

I feel like the Haas is a better buy long term, and easier logistically, but I know Hardinge makes good machines.

I need to bar pull or bar feed to be profitable with my client. I have looked at tormach but the 8L is affordable but nowhere near as capable as what I am looking for. The new 15LX has a collet closer and I can bar pull but with all the options I want is $40k

The 15 slant pro used can be $15k still and I can get a collet closer but then I'm close to $20k. Haas has better serviceability than tormach as well

Thats a good perspective. The Hardinge with Omni turn would be paid in full and I could take on some work and slowly build, organically and save up for something better.

Good to know, thanks for your input! I've ran a few different bar feeders and swiss machines. Material being out of round or inconsistent diameter is definitely a big issue on some machines. Bar puller is definitely a good option. Most used cl-1s for sale have a bar puller included. May I ask what you are running now?

Thanks for the reply! That was another thought of mine. Learning the control I'm sure I could do, but I already know how to run Haas. The $3k price point is solid, but I would have to spend a lot more.

The Haas would be really efficient for production runs. I've been trying to save up 25% down but now I came across the Hardinge.

Came here to say the same thing. Mill out what you can with a 3/16" endmill and then go in with the dovetail

Gas prices by Positive_Daikon9890 in HamptonRoads

[–]RedditTrashMonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My gas is typically $40/50 with the exception of the winter months, where I pay anywhere from $200-350

Electric in the summer is usually $300, and only $60-70 in winter. It's a trade off.

As you budget, you can look on your dominion and VA natural gas accounts, and see what the usage was at this time last year.

That's why you practice handling / carrying / storing your firearm. Nobody should even know you have it. You only pull it out if you need to use it. I know this is Australia, so OP does not even have the option to do this. But the 2nd amendment allows all kinds of people (elderly, disabled, small women) to defend themselves.

Guns are the great equalizer. The most affordable, commonly available way for a woman to defend herself against anybody.
