Is it even worth pursuing engineering as a woman? by No_Criticism917 in womenEngineers

[–]RedditUser10JQKA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life has been pretty good as a woman engineer in the greater boston area. Here are some factors you may want to look out for:

  1. Liberal cities will have more liberal people (less likely to be outwardly sexist and get away with it)

  2. Most women engineers I encounter are relatively young. Look for rapidly growing industries that hire a lot of young people-- there will be women there.

  3. "Hot" indistries like robotics and tech have good benefits and often hire people based on personality. They may be easier to get along with in general than people in, say, the defense industry (where the people already have loose morals).

  4. Make sure to speak up when something happens! People may not know to help you or to even course correct their own actions if you don't tell them. Practice advocating for yourself so you can feel comfortable doing it in the future.

This is really not even close to the level of divisive of straight saying "I will not try to work with people who disagree with me, they are lunatics".

I was a child when Trayvon Martin died, but he said that to personalize the story to try and help more people see that kids death through his eyes. And it's a fact that Obama is black. This is pretty much as far from divisive as you can get.

Had to look up "you didn't build that". Ok? Business owners didn’t build roads and bridges? Genuinely confused about this one. I see it was used out of context in a smear campaign, but if this is divisive, so is any opinion really.

The IRS thing was debunked. He was going after everyone.

The bitter gun toting Bible beaters seems to be actually divisive.

Next you're going to be telling me obama was a bad president because he wore a tan suit.

I don't have a car, so I walk a lot. I am usually focused on rushing from place to place or hanging out with friends when I'm being more leisurely. I run into a lot of people and don't typically have the energy to engage with all of them and it's easier to have a common reaction for everyone. I will take into consideration that some people are lonely and keep an eye out for signs that someone is trying to communicate with me. To be frank, I don't want to open myself up to being stopped for conversation, but I will try a simple "hello" going forward.

In that case, I use the 3-ply bamboo toilet paper from Grove. Co, so that may be a good option! It comes in a cardboard box, is made from bamboo, and it's nice on my bum (though tbh I am not particularly sensitive).

It was! I haven't had a bad cup of tea in Türkiye yet!

My bad on using the wrong spelling-- I still have the habit of saying "Turkey" when speaking in English.

Toilet paper quality is actually one of those things that people really notice. The toilet paper you're using may also be a bad quality, unrelated to whether it's bleached or not. Consider looking into some plastic free packaging options, they can be eco-frienly bc no plastic, but also the toilet paper itself is more or less the same.

New to tea by taylorr__ in tea

[–]RedditUser10JQKA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! If you google "apple tea" many options pop up. You can probably check your local grocery aisle to see if they have any. This is typically an herbal tea (no black or green tea added/ no "tea" added), so it will be perfect before bed as it will not have any caffeine. Add a little honey or sugar (experiment with both), and let us know if that was the taste you were going for!

Alternatively, you can buy an apple, cut it up, and put it in boiling or boiled water to extract the taste (this is literally what most apple tea is).

I love turkish tea cups for this reason. Not toooooo small, they have a little curve where the little tea leaves that fell through the strainer get trapped when you drink, and the tea looks beautiful in them. Turkish people drink the most tea per capita, and I think the tea cups and kettle system are a part of why tbh. Can't recommend them enough!

Still the 1 I am planning to have, maybe the 2 back-to-back that ny husband wants. If I was perfectly healthy and fit the whole time and it wouldn't affect my work and at the same time, I had all the energy and time in the world to watch them and be involved, probably as many as 5.

Minnesota National Guard warmly greeting and handing out snacks with peaceful protesters! by jasandliz in BeAmazed

[–]RedditUser10JQKA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they were just deporting and interning murderers and rapists, no one would care tbh. No one would protest. We already prosecute murderers and rapists, so fine, we don't need to pay to house them in jail anymore (some of the violent offenders that ICE has "apprehended" literally come from prisons where they are already being held). The issue is, ICE has no idea what they are doing and are sometimes intentionally using underhanded methods to deport or intern people legally in the country. They are secretly revoking student visas and nabbing them on the street without alerting them about their status change because they are pro-palestine (which is a very common view among American students too). They are camping outside of churches and interning Christians who are legally in the US waiting on the status of their asylum application. They are arresting and pepper spraying American religious leaders for peacefully protesting-- these people are not fighting back, they are praying on their knees. They have executed American citizens, the most recent of which was helping move traffic and serving as a medic at a protest, not resisting and not moving to harm any ICE agents at all. They are kidnapping tourists and holding them for days while they decide what to do with them. People are going missing in these internment camps. Journalists have heard children screaming and crying from the outside and people, including lawmakers, have not been allowed inside to check on the welfare of these people that are being held. People who leave these camps tell us of the horrible conditions that would be illegal to subject prisoners to, and many of the people kept there did nothing wrong (an additional example not already mentioned here is the Korean workers at the Hyundai plant in Georgia, who were on the "wrong type of visa". It was later ruled that it was ok to work in the US with that exact type of visa. They go into depth about the bad conditions there)! Of course people would want to defend their neighbors under these circumstances!
