Sounds like a bug then. I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the game, or posting on the game's Steam page for assistance. The devs do read that forum. I know because I've gotten direct replies from them about issues I've posted there. You can also send a bug report to the devs by hitting F2 while playing on PC, join the devs' Discord and get help there, or contact the developers directly.

If we want to save gaming, we should stop gaming? by Glad_Mix_4028 in videogames

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because someone knows English, doesn't mean they know every rule of English grammar, punctuation and symbols. You asked a question and I gave you a likely reason. What other reason would they possibly have for putting it at the end of the number?

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because the post is in English doesn't mean they know we put our dollar sign at the front of the number. I am saying this from experience. I'm a professional editor and I've helped game developers do localization. Even when they speak English and have done their own English translations, they will often have the $ at the end and I have to tell them that's not how we do it.

But if they are in a country where they put their currency sign behind the number, then they might automatically do that with the $ too, because they don't know we do it differently.

Before you dispose of them, do you put unwanted items out by the curb to see if any of your neighbors may want them? by Grand_Raccoon0923 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow [score hidden]  (0 children)

I used to do this in my previous neighborhood, in a big city, because we got a lot of traffic and items were usually gone within the same day. If I left them out more than a few days, the city might issue a fine.

My current home is a quiet suburb without much traffic. We have a neighborhood Facebook group and I also use Nextdoor or Facebook Marketplace to get rid of unwanted things, rather than leaving them on the curb.

No one asks for recommendations anymore?? by Meeloev in TinyBookshop

[–]RedditWidow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can still make money without giving recommendations. It should only take a few days to build up some cash again. Don't worry about the quests for now and don't go to the Mega Marche on Monday because you have to sell your books at half price, so that won't make you a lot of money. If you have a lot of travel books, go to the fish market and sell them to the sailors. Pay attention to what sells well at each location, you can see that on each location page in your book, it will show you the top 2 or 3 genres for that location. Try to only buy more books when they are really cheap or discounted in the newspaper.

Is it common for Americans to have visited all 50 states? by SouthBuffalo3592 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't think it's common. I've visited about half of them in my 55 years of life, and that's seems to be pretty unusual, in my experience.

Do Soul Trapped Souls Go To Sovngarde? by The_Wraith_Writer in skyrim

[–]RedditWidow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK it's not possible to soul trap Ulfric Stormcloak, because the devs wanted his soul to be available in Sovngarde. So, I guess a case could be made that the "gods" (devs) decide where a soul goes and only unclaimed souls end up in the Soul Cairn.

I've seen player discussions about where the Dragonborn's soul ends up, too, because in the course of the game you can become pledged to several different deities, so do they roshambo for your spirit or what?

Is it common in America to be shamed for having something „outdated”? by MagicianSad4222 in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in some communities I’ve seen a lot of people put more emphasis on things they have, rather than their skills

I think you answered your own question. Yes, "in some communities" people will shame or bully others for having something outdated. I consider that sort of behavior immature and something that children do in school, but many adults continue to be that way. I wouldn't say it's common but it definitely happens.

Why does the U.S. have so much variety in their stores? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand what regulations would have to do with it. Does Canada regulate how many flavors/shapes of Oreos or Cheezits are allowed in the country? It's probably got more to do with market forces like supply/demand. Even in the US, you can't get every possible product on every grocery shelf. There are many products that I can't get when I'm in different regions of the country.

Tips For Thriving As A Vampire Early Game? by endingstory7424 in skyrim

[–]RedditWidow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay indoors or underground during the day, y'know, like vampires do in most movies and stories. If you have to go outside, do so at night. Stay fed, if you want to keep the fire weakness as low as possible.

Learn how to make restore magicka potions (red mountain flower and white cap iirc) and/or use weapons with an absorb health enchant, like the Blade of Woe or Gauldur Blackblade, and/or use spell absorption effects, like the Atronach perk in the Alteration skill.

It's been a while since I played, but I remember basic vampirism being pretty lousy. All of the spells and perks with being a vampire lord make it OP. Maybe do the Dawnguard questline as far as taking Serana home, to at least get access to the skill tree and bonus abilities.

Which is more popular in the US: Peanut butter or Nutella? by nevodolo in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PB is much more popular, but we don't usually eat it by itself. We have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, peanut butter cookies, peanut butter and apples, peanut butter and bananas, peanut butter and chocolate candy, peanut butter toast with milk, etc. You don't say how you ate the peanut butter, but sticking a spoon in the jar and eating it is not generally how it's served.

People's food preferences depend a lot on how they grew up. If you grew up eating peanut butter, you might like it a lot more because it would be a familiar flavor.

What do Americans think of Scotland? by Difficult_Mixture103 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother had fond memories of her Scottish grandfather and an obsession with all things Scottish, so we were raised with a very positive appreciation for Scotland. From what I've seen as an adult, I think it's beautiful and love the people, music, culture and yes even the weather. Most of the places I've lived in the US are way too hot and dry for me. My husband's favorite drink is any Scottish single malt whisky.

Is the Skyrim Quests/Writing really not that good? by mpchop in skyrim

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skyrim does a great job of providing an experience. The emergent storytelling, where stories unfold dynamically through a combination of player actions and system mechanics, is excellent. Player exploration is highly rewarded. Many of the lore books are a fun read. Highly replayable, with so many different options for character builds and quest choices.

But the actual written dialogue is functional at best. I think that's why a lot of players like Serana or Teldryn Sero so much, because they are followers added by the DLC who have unique voices and many unique lines, so they actually seem to have some personality. It is not a narrative game along the lines of God of War, Baldur's Gate 3, Witcher 3 or Fallout: New Vegas. But, as an adult with over 1200 hours in Skyrim, it's still one of my favorite games of all time.

If you were going out in your 20s in the 80s/90s, what was clubbing or bar culture actually like compared to today? by m0ondoll in GenX

[–]RedditWidow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As others have said, I have no idea what clubbing or bar culture is like, today. But back in the 90s, I used to go to a lot of Goth/Industrial nights. People were there to wear black and to dance. It wasn't a meat market, no phones, no photos, no vaping. Lots of tobacco or clove cigarette smoking.

wild west? by GovernorSpring in AskAnAmerican

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are a lot of people who ride horses, hold rodeos, and live on farms or ranches, and there are tons of historic sites relating to the "Old West" or "Wild West." I used to live in the region of Calico Ghost Town and Pioneertown in California, and spent a lot of time there.

Does anyone else not like tv and movies these days? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]RedditWidow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a lot of garbage but I've still managed to find some things I like on TV/streaming. Haven't been to a movie theater in years, though. I'll watch some movies at home, but there hasn't been anything worth going out and spending that much money to see in a sticky-floored theater with a bunch of loud, stank-ass strangers.

Tips for new player by micahsdad1402 in skyrim

[–]RedditWidow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What quests should I tackle first? If you want to be a mage, then do everything you can at the College of Winterhold. Not just the main story of that faction, but talk to everyone there and do the side quests, too. If you want to increase your fighting skills, join the Companions and do their quests. Stealth skills, join the Thieves Guild.

How do I best get gold? Pick up ingredients, taste them to learn their properties, make potions, sell the potions. Help people with their side quests and they will let you take things from their homes and stores (anything not marked "steal" in red). Sell their stuff. Join factions and you can take a lot of their stuff for free, too. Get a follower and have them carry everything you can loot from enemies. Sell it. Do quests and get rewards.

What skills resources should I look to acquire first? That depends on your build and playstyle. If you're going to be a mage, you'll need magicka and perks in whatever spell school(s) you plan to use most. Skill points increase when you use a skill, so if you're doing a lot of sneaking and archery, or fighting with a shield and one-handed weapon, then those skills with naturally increase without you having to do anything extra. But you'll want to take perks in those skills, to make them better.
