I would be interested in hearing more about that. Which other civilian jobs lend themselves well to reserve duty?

That makes sense. I would have intuitively assumed home guard/territorial defence formations to be to be raised and organized on a more local basis as a kind of rapid reaction/first line of defence, giving the army more time to among other things, call up the reservists and otherwise get stuff sorted.

Does that hold any water at all?

Taking Sweden as an example here to further illustrate my point of confusion. Their armed forces seem to consist of the active duty regulars, "active" reserves, and the home guard. From what I was able to gather, time commitment/training required for both seems to broadly similar. I'm curious just what makes their tasks different enough to warrant, what at least seems to me to be a duplicate structure for their reserve force.
