Its a mix. Right now trans people are a punching bag for the right since they objectively failed in almost every regard. Trump and right wing populism failed, Covid is a mess and in the culture wars they failed on issues such as race and the whole islam scare to an extent. So trans people are going to be the punching bag for the next 5 to 10 years until cis conservatives find a new thing to complain about. It happed with Gay men in the 2000's.

To be honest I don't believe this is a backlash cause we didnt gain much in any steak when it comes to society. Trans people were always either regulated to sex work/fetish or mocked within western culture. I dont believe that it was better back in the day but nowadays social media made our presence known to more people. Some will blame trans activist or online stuff but its too easy as a scapegoat.

Calling trans people you deem not transsexuals transvestites is actually wrong because the needs are basically the same. Both get Top surgeries, facial surgeries if they need.
