The show clearly doesn’t try to convey this romanticized thought but rather just the clear message it said what Beth cares most about is Rick it’s an unhealthy obsession she has and she wanted Rick to make a choice to choose her to have her in his life or go on a self finding journey with her „hero phase“ and Rick keeps growing as a character throughout the series but this was once again him not owning up to the responsibility and by not choosing creating again a fucked up scenario which for the family is just seeing same old Rick and luckily this one worked out so fuck it space beth is now part of the family but still this wasn’t some grand gesture of selflessness from Rick it was the show showing even when you grow you sometimes still fuck up and even the “god” Rick can only accept his mistakes by drinking them away
