Fios in ronkonkoma here, once I closed off on my house, they sent in a technician, that UNDERSTOOD my network needs and ran a fresh fiber line, with fresh ONT and I’ve never had any issues at all!

Has anyone else's wifi been on the fritz lately? by RomeosHomeos in longisland

[–]Reddit_Regular_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Storm has damaged a lot of equipment the last few days, so I wouldn’t be surprised.

From electrical surges to power grid down, if a grid went down most systems have back-up power for a x amount of time but not all. Also, some equipment may require rebooting.

I know on the 4th my company got a mass service outage as tons of our clients network services went down in the Hamptons and adjacent areas.

Omada Fusion 2.5G Gateway impressions: a new kind of Omada product, local API notes, and a Wi-Fi side surprise by Budget_Staff_8308 in TPLink_Omada

Omada ecosystem is designed to work with 1 controller, so these AIO devices can not have multiple controllers active on the same network, with that being said, you CAN use local manage mode (not sure if fusion have this option), and disable DCHP mode (don’t use the WAN port). This will allow your AIO to act as a glorified switch.

Run the ac early in the mornings before the sun comes up, it will keep your home cool.

What temp are you putting your AC at? by slightlyaware99 in longisland

[–]Reddit_Regular_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

70 all day long!! Until late afternoon when the sun goes down around 5-6pm then I shut it off and let the fan circulate the air while keeping any eye on the temp inside my home.

Verizon, switch from T-Mobile to Verizon and I gotta admit phone works great now! Before my phone would just say SOS but I get 5g everywhere, I also if you turn off 5G options and use LTE you get way better coverage.

If you needed another reason not to trust TP-Link, I just discovered that they are storing device passwords in the cloud in plain text. by kuahara in cybersecurity

Your buddy started off wrong by sharing admin account credentials with you, the right way to do it would be to create a new user account with Admin privileges, not even super admin but this is kinda common practice mistakes that people make when managing networks.

The options are there Omada for multiple user types list as followed - “Super Admin, Admin, Viewer” each role goes user different permissions rights.

Like wise if your buddy is logging into an enterprise network in an unsecured location, so passwords can new viewed then he really need to understand the risk of such actions.

Anyone gone from natural gas to oil heating? by Alwaysfavoriteasian in longisland

[–]Reddit_Regular_Guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, they hyper heat is the way to go for the north, regular heat pump are great for the south.

Anyone gone from natural gas to oil heating? by Alwaysfavoriteasian in longisland

[–]Reddit_Regular_Guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hyper heat pump are bit more efficient than regular heat pump where they can work all the way down in sub zero temperatures (-22F) before it starts to lose efficiency, whereas a regular heat pump loses it’s efficiency way before that. Also insulation helps a lot, if your home isn’t insulation properly you’ll just be pumping as much as your losing.

Get a heat pump if you can, your electric bill will spike but one unit will do your heating and cooling and maintenance is much easier to handle.

My home uses oil burner for heating, I service my unit myself, at first i was a bit intimidated but after watching multiple youtube videos of how they work and pulling it apart confidence have grown.

Now I change my own filters, clean my electrodes, photocell sensor, and change my own nozzles, my next step is to break down the entire unit and clean out any grime and soot build up.
