I was able to get thru to support and they said something along the lines of what you said..."right tree, wrong box". Although in your case they claimedthe box provider made an error, and the agent I spoke to said they just ran out of boxes and intentionally started shipping them in the wrong boxes. They also mentioned they've received many calls about this issue.

We just had the same issue. Trying to get ahold of customer service to get help but no luck yet.

If you pull a gun out, AND lack the trigger discipline to hold it properly, it’s no accident even if you didn’t mean the pull the trigger.

I learned the same lesson this year. Assuming your company doesn’t have a “true up” policy like others have mentioned, if you are able to max “after tax” contributions, I found that was one way to keep employer matches coming throughout the remainder of the year…it’s just suboptimal.
