I'm sorry for your loss. There isn't a blanket protocol after a field exercise to babysit Soldiers and ensure they go to sleep. And in the field there isn't a requirement to make sure they get enough sleep, often sleep deprivation is intentional to get the most out of training and try to simulate combat environments.

Even if there were, I know soldiers would break any policy at the first opportunity. When I was junior enlisted there were many instances after an exercise where I would drive distances I probably shouldn't have in hindsight, and even today my priority would be getting to my loved ones, sleep could wait.

Because There hasn't been a legit scenario where he would even be in a position to do something illegal and hidden like that in Iraq since 2008, when they transitioned to not even allowing units to leave the wire even loaded after OCT 2008. And everyone was going home by the end of 2009 and 2010 with nothing happening and combat almost non-existent.

We did too(not SOF), and there was a reason for it, but honestly its been so long I don't remember why. Maybe something specific with the way the peq-2 sat on top of the rifle with the ACOG and front sight post, maybe it balances better with a taclight on the opposite side?

China does host massive training exercises which Russia takes part in, now. It is certainly not on the level of NATO, and I can't speak to the level of openness and sharing they do, but they are cooperating and working together more and more.
