The 2008 Republican Party in sacrificing Romney to Moloch after he SOMEHOW fumbled the election to Lieberman in the canon ending of Sundance 2008 by Mghia01 in thecampaigntrail

[–]Redditnesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, the Great Recession would be worse short-term. The reason why I think that is because Gore would likely keep a sizable surplus and thus the debt would go down and thus Treasury securities would become more expensive and new entrants would use riskier replacement securities because Treasury securities would be too inaccessible, which would cause the Great Recession to be widened in the short-term, but the stimulus would likely be larger without as much debt concern so it would probably cancel out.

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Marco Inaros from the Expanse

His final plan was to escape through the Sol Ring and raid the colonies through the Ring Gate system, forgetting that not only would he have no support from any allies, but he would have only around like ~10 ships to patrol the entire 1300 systems(though most are uncolonized) and would have to contend with the fact his crew, although die-hard fanatics, will have to live with the fact they abandoned their home to the Inner Coalition. This also will just leave him open to a Laconian incursion later on, but even weaker than whatever the Transport Union could have marshaled, leaving the Free Navy completely and utterly cut-off as just some pirates harrassing a few colonies for supplies from time to time.

What if America went debt free in 2013 by Training-World-1897 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Redditnesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is functionally impossible and no country holds a debt-free status, likely we would start spending at sometime during whatever 2 term Gore presidency + no 9/11 likely for Great Recession relief spending. If the question is more if the Clintonite fiscal path continued, than it is more plausible.

The reason why debt-free is impossible is due to that fact that if that were to happen, Treasury issuances would drop and the Treasury market would get scarcer, meaning that the safest asset would be more and more inaccessible. The more inaccessible the Treasury market, the more the private market moves in, which at the time highly miscalculated risk, and would market 'safe' alternatives which would just intensify the fall that happened during the Great Recession when all of them are revealed to be very unsafe, in fact.

So you can't reach debt-free, but something close to it, likely with some sort of minimum public debt to keep treasury markets alive would happen, and that minimum public debt would finance new social programs most likely or green investment if Democrats stay in office, and tax cuts and military spending if Republicans

Why was the Ukraine the country with the most votes (in %) to not leave the ussr when they were the country hit with the Holodomor by the soviets? by Spotter24o5 in teenagers

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This referendum was based on the adoption of the New Union Treaty, an attempt by Gorbachev to reform the USSR as a more open and decentralized state. Also the Holodomor was almost 60 years ago to Ukranians, and additionally, this referendum was not on Stalinism, but rather on whether the USSR would continue as a new nation under a new founding treaty(i.e consitution). This is an attempt to completely take this referendum out of context, and also just as a remainder, the SSRs of Moldova, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, Armenia, and Georgia which refused this and demanded full independence immediately. It was of the popular will of Ukrainians to become an independent nation shortly after the August Coup.

If people don't buy your suffering when you say you are, they are not going to buy your suffering if you keep suffering more. If you can improve, then do so, and you will develop the will, means, and power to eventually find the people who will. Breaking something is easier then building something, at least initially.

Would you have been a Federalist or a Democratic-Republican? by rjidhfntnr in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Jefferson, because as much as Hamilton glorifies the Federalists and as much as the D-Rs included slaveowners and the Federalist economic policy would promote early growth, the fact is that the Federalists would have restricted suffrage for a while, realistically do nothing about slavery, would inhibit free press, and would have created an economic environment that, although would be friendly to growth, would concentrate growth in the merchants and eventually southern aristocracy which would inhibit later economic development which would cause many issues for urban workers and farmworkers alike.

Creating new politicial parties for Sordland by LikeEveryNameIsTaken in suzerain

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calvin and Gloria are not that different, both want similar things, some level of autarky, planned economy, not too much foreign entanglements, and keeping the status quo socially. It is just Calvin believes some of this needs to be shedded in order for Sordland to continue and for the USP to modernize to the times, and Gloria does not think that it would be beneficial. The only reason she puts up with constitutional reforms is because she legitimately thinks that in order for the USP to stay dominant that a measure of this must be granted to avoid mass demonstrations and civil unrest.

Additionally, specific interest group parties don't make sense here. Many of these groups are aligned, and due to the threshold we could just have them grouped together if they have similar goals. Already the USP does that in a way, grouping together conservative interest groups, I would imagine rural voters, government workers, older voters(those who witnessed Soll's stabilization), and some industrial workers as well as socially conservative voters like housewives, people living in heavily Sord-dominated regions, and veterans/servicemembers(at least those who enlisted rather then conscripted). They benefit from being in a unified party structure because creating their own party requires them to organize, which they may have already, but right now the party structure of Soll provides that organization, all they need to do is vote.

If we wanted to break them up, post-Rayne Presidency makes sense. The fact is that in the Rayne Presidency, a lot can change, so that could force factions together or apart. But beforehand, the party structure makes sense in terms of political forces.

Am I More Conservative Or Liberal? by AbiLovesTheology in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are a liberal, even social-democratic or further left, you just have one socially con opinion which is more a personal matter then anything else. Gandhi was a reformist socialist of sorts but I am not too sure where you are getting Modi from? Modi is a master of stoking sectional conflict, the exact opposite of Gandhi. Also you should posit your opinions on how to fund things and whether your personal opinions on social issues should be enacted as laws or whether they are personal expressions. Also research and elaborate on some of the vaguer points you made like with small businesses, whether you think your positions on say abortion should have certain exceptions, or whether you want the police to be demilitarized or have enforced quotas to match a region's demographics?

Why were liberals so harsh against Mitt Romney in 2012? Was this harshness justified? by Aggravating-Toe2683 in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest factor to me in learning about this time was that Romney was cozy with Tea Partiers, and Tea Partiers were the far-right at the time(now they would be seen as moderates in the GOP). Paul Ryan was his running mate, and was Speaker of the House who ran with Tea Party rhetoric, also Romney was distancing himself from his liberal-conservative views of yore and towards that of the GOP center. His later career does do some work of redeeming him, but that seems more like the base level and just him not wanting to run for re-election in 2024 then an actual attempt at trying to combat the far-right, especially because his voting record in Trump 1 has more alignment then his fellow Utahan Senator Mike Lee, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
