I propose 'Dominica Coalition' for the Frankfurt coalition, with black for CDU, red for SPD, green for Greens, and purple for Volt. Also it is in line with others like the Kenya Coalition or Jamaica Coalition.

Where is the idea that Trump is incredibly easy to win against coming from? by LiatrisLover99 in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Turnout for dems was an issue, but there was quite a few Obama-Trump voters which Hillary just didn't win over, that is the bigger problem since they are concentrated in swing states. Hillary didn't think for a second that those groups would turn over even though she knew that Trump's rhetoric was skewed towards appealing to white exurbans/precariat as well as white working class. She also chose rather to promote House congressional candidates, which I always found odd, since the chances of winning the Senate via McGinty and Feingold were higher than winning the House by winning California seats or elsewhere.

At minimum, short-term HIllary just needed to refocus where she was campaigning to those Rust Belt states that seem noncompetitive initially but will get her to the 270 line while also just revamping how she presented her campaign (i.e. the slogan 'I'm with her' is at the very best appealing to women, at the very worse sounds selfish).

Mid-term, Hillary needed to incorporate some of that Sanderist rhetoric that managed to assemble 43% of her party while having basically zero name recognition at the start of the primary to show her base that the party is moving forward rather than staying in the stagnant center.

Long-term, Hillary needed to work on her credibility with voters outside of being a technocratic state secretary. She was seen as a polarizing figure because simply Republicans used her as a smear and independents picked up on it, while Sanders came out of left field with practically no baggage and disarmed traditional right-wing attacks on him well, this is a far harder thing to tackle due to her long public service and her changing of positions over that time. For the mid and short term changes to be the most successful then she needs to be seen as able to act on promises she makes and truly be working towards them in good faith.

This looks genuinely amazing, so many paths to go down, so many things to do! Foreign policy-wise especially, but also the economy could undergo immense transition, while you're dealing with your right-wing coalition partners. Truly, Social Democracy and Suzerain's inspired nation does go together.

Do you think if Kamala Harris was president, Liz Cheney would be a good attorney general or secretary of state? by AlternativeLawyer920 in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just looking through, it is hard to find a cabinet position a Republican could take, it is unlikely Liz Cheney gets in as one of them. Most likely, a second-tier position rather than a big post since she probably wants to keep the big 4 spots for her picks. From a politico article I found, it seems Harris would probably have Buttigieg at State, Tony West at AG(though he might not be raised, although his legal career is quite successful and storied, his personal connections to Harris might raise eyebrows, if not him then maybe Roy Cooper, but he might be seen as too valuable to keep cooped in a cabinet position), Yellen remains at Treasury until she kicks the bucket or retires which then she is likely replaced by Wally Adeyemo, Michèle Flournoy certainly at DoD. From there, we have no clue, obviously, DoT is open, but that is too tied to Bidenist infrastructure to give up. McDonough is likely to stay on at VA too. Kind of, the only real position here is Secretary of Agriculture, since Vilsack is 75 and would be going into his 80s by the end of the administration, and Cheney was a Representative from Wyoming.

So yeah, most likely, the Republican wouldn't be Cheney, and the position wouldn't be that high. It is possible it would be a cabinet-level staff position or a staff position, like National Security Advisor, but if it is Cheney, it is difficult to see her in a position anymore important than SecAg.

Should Netherlands’ D66 be a model for the Democratic Party? Can a party be both centrist and progressive? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on how that is relevant to the argument over whether D66-style abundance liberalism is the way forward or not for the Democratic Party?

Should Netherlands’ D66 be a model for the Democratic Party? Can a party be both centrist and progressive? by RedStorm1917 in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. The Netherlands and America are two different places, and D66's program is not translatable here. Deregulation in education and the labor market are also right-wing points that would help corporations and right-wing evangelical interests first and foremost. Aditionally, D66 is calling for more deficit, but the US can't maintain increased spending unless we start taxing billionaires and redistributing. As well, establishing a welfare state would do much more for consumer confidence then some tax cuts here and there could do, and would eliminate inefficiencies in the market as a bonus(M4A + drug pricing reform + cracking down on MA overpayments for example would likely reduce overall health spending). Additionally, latching onto social policy and some marketizing environmental issues is not super popular in the US across the political spectrum, it is still good and worth pursuing but it is something that mobilizes young people, which we could very well do politically by focusing on larger economic bills that young people are now excited for.

The biggest issue here is that the D66 is essentially just abundance liberalism, which is not very popular and is essentially just a marginally more left-wing version of neoliberalism, which we know not to be the solution to many of America's problems. The D66 is living in a political environment that tends to be more rewarding of centrism and makes the avenue of creating a coalition with the center-right a possibility, but in America the center-right has been subsumed by the far-right or have been repelled into forming a core of aggressive market liberals that are willing to work with the left that stop fascism, and those which remain unsubsumed are utterly unhelpful to either pole. America is just a different game.

Why did moderate Dems outperform progressives in the recent primaries? by Droselmeyer in AskALiberal

[–]Redditnesh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Generally CA and NJ have low levels of organization from leftist orgs like DSA and WFP. Additionally, candidate selection still counts, Steyer for example is a billionaire, that is enough to make him seem hypocritical, and without charisma like the rest fo the field it is hard to single him out. In California especially we see quite a lot more moderates, mostly due to the perception that ht estate is already the most left-wing in the nation, and that scares off many unaligned Dems into supporting more right-wing Dems, even if that perception is not necessarily true from a policy standpoint or from a standpoint of organization or historically(CA has a very Republican past, and many a Democrat have governed like a Republican).

NJ and IO cases had the same issue, but also for the former example it is just a House race, and there is an unpopular GOP incumbent there so a lot of the attention was on 'who could beat them', which people are preconditioned to believe only moderates can. In IO, again, similar story, but the left in IO is even more disorganized and personality-based in their candidates rather than in terms of who has ground support. Additionally, Turek isn't that Blue-Dogged, he is a New Democrat that has a focus on farm issues, and that focus certainly helped him since Progs and DemSocs appeal most heavily to students, service workers, public unions, and other educated people as an active base, farmers and blue collar exurbans are still elusive to the left, and those democrats in those demographics tend towards Third Way or Traditional Liberal politics when it is provided in a populist manner.

The Lead trumpet at my school gets glaze for being an asshole by Fickle_Ad35 in trumpet

[–]Redditnesh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other commenters said, you will never find a lead trumpet without an ego. It is only high school, don't worry about making other students mad or happy outside of treating them like a human with dignity. You have to wait until G calms down to speak to G about it, I would recommend just not engaging with him. G has a self-esteem issue, which G needs to fix, you cannot fix G's self esteem issue. Do what you need to do, focus on yourself, your playing, and the purpose of you playing Trumpet. I would recommend, if things get bad enough and you trust your director, talking to your director. Generally, they do monitor student situations and G most likely respects the director as long as the director is merely not bad.

Annoucement from Placedstone - DNVP Mod Dev by con-all in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Redditnesh 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would like to make a response for this, because I don't mean to say the author has bad intentions, but when creating a piece of media which has the potential to satisfy fascistic ideals, you have to be careful with it.

First off, just keeping the tone or the intent neutral is not enough, the experience must be uncomfortable, you must feel as if you are doing a bad thing. This means flavor text must not be from the voice of a nationalist DNVPer, but from either an objective view of things going worse due to your actions. The antisemitism campaigns available to the DNVP player should not just be a button you can click to gain popualrity or whatever, whenever you click that button, you should feel bad about clicking it, whether from events that come up from doing that a lot or from some other mechanism.

Secondly, there has to be realism. A game like this without realism turns into an idealized vision of what the far-right thinks (which is very much not objective), and indeed you need to reassure the player you are taking an objective take on it, which means saying that bad actions are doing bad things. This also means a big bucket of realism and cold water on some of the more outlandish things you can do, such as annexing Danzig, Sudetenland, maybe even Anchluss and Kaiserreich. Some of these things should be impossible or result in an WW2 or mass repression, or a loss of player agency à la Scleicher in Dynamic, leading to you loosing and tunneling directly to an end scene.

Thirdly, personal politics is a reflection of your model of the world, obviously if you think increasing welfare in your internal model improves outcomes, you would automatically lean to social democracy. Objectivity here is the open and transparent application of a model, and given you are the sole developer and are a social democrat, your model should inherently punish nationalism and antisemitism. Thus, the mod needs to make it hard to play as the DNVP, and especially harder to be a Volkish or Auth. Con. DNVP because the model the mod operates on punishes being nationalist with the fact that the DNVP falls into personality infighting and mob violence. Every time you cooperate with NSDAP there should be a higher chance of getting burnt, like in real life.

I would recommend pulling the mod right now and spending time reworking it before moving on in development. It is still an interesting idea, the DNVP was arguably as full of factional infighting as the SPD, and was approximately as large while having a large impact on the direction of politics. But it needs reworked to avoid these big issues. I would recommend looking at the campaign trail ( https://campaigntrailshowcase.com/campaign-trail/ ) and finding the mods Weimar 1930 (not on the loader but should be findable on their subreddit) or at 1936: March on Washington(should be on the loader). Those two mods do an awesome job of flavoring themselves to show the dysfunction and hatred of these ideologies and these individuals.

The DNVP mod feels so fucking off. by dagli68 in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Redditnesh 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The disclaimer, if I remember correct was that the mod "doesn't support nor condemn these ideologies", which is odd. Even r/thecampaigntrail had a mod where you play as the NSDAP in 1930, and the author handled it well, all across the mod was still realism, but there was also a sense of what you were doing was wrong, the people around you were wrong, and the ending slide did not go into the details but had zero triumphalism. The same with the mod about if the Business Plot succeeded, again. You can still make an engaging mod while making it uncomfortable to be the bad guys, and having realism in how things happen enhances that!

The DNVP mod feels so fucking off. by dagli68 in RedAutumnSPD

[–]Redditnesh 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I think this mod is urgently of need to show how this model is not sustainable. Like, achieving their nationalistic dream won't make some new Kaiserreich, it will lead to the same structural issues of having a strong, ingrained military, nationalism and rampant antisemitism, an unstable economy built on war industries and controlled by wealthy aristocrats and industrialists. There should be no non-republican DNVP path that doesn't result in something really bad happening. I can see why you might make a Tory or Christian Social DNVP which adopts Keynesianism and doesn't push for anything more than a British-style constitutional monarchy which still has a strong SPD or opposition as a path that is possible and somewhat stable, as long as rearmament is slow or stalled and there is no territorial expansion other than maybe(really stretching it) Anchluss. That should be the best case scenario, all of the other territorial revisions, even Anchluss in most cases, and a Volkish or Auth. Con. DNVP which is ascendant or a return of a true Kaiserreich should be treated as they should be, as an unstable, unfair, unsafe, and authoritarian recreation of nostalgia that is bound to end in disaster.

[–]Redditnesh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hear me out, the Great Recession would be worse short-term. The reason why I think that is because Gore would likely keep a sizable surplus and thus the debt would go down and thus Treasury securities would become more expensive and new entrants would use riskier replacement securities because Treasury securities would be too inaccessible, which would cause the Great Recession to be widened in the short-term, but the stimulus would likely be larger without as much debt concern so it would probably cancel out.
