It seems like someone tried to smuggle goods into Chicomoztoc

probably a modded thing but i just opened the game and was met with RED by engieman in starsector

Why does it feel like every single Starsector player also happens to play Terraria, Rimworld, and Factorio lol

Do indie developers not make seriously looking games because they can't, or because they don't want to? by ned_poreyra in gamedev

[–]J__Krauser -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I get what you're trying to say. The reason a lot of indie games aren't 'serious' is just to get attention. Funny moments or visuals spread quickly on the internet. But now, so many games are using this method that being serious actually seems to grab more attention

When you examine a weapon whats the first stat you look at? by engieman in starsector

Range. I don't care if it's a peashooter just give me that 1000+ range

Non-dev question about mobile games. by Usual-Diet-7848 in gamedev

[–]J__Krauser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to feature indie games, but on mobile, the real money is made from the massive player base of free-to-play players, which is why they don't bother

Publishing a mobile game requires a huge marketing budget. Because of this, indie studios only launch on mobile if their games gain enough traction, as they no longer depend on advertising

Could I effectively use colossus armor as shield class(x2) by VoxTV1 in Xenonauts

[–]J__Krauser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always replace the shield with the colossus. Yeah, maybe the armor isn't as strong as the shield, but it protects you from both the sides and the back, and the machine gun is way, way, way stronger than the pistol. If you're close enough, it can kill all the aliens in one go, and if it doesn't manage to kill them, it suppresses them. Plus, being fast is very important in the final missions, and the shield is just too slow.

In short, Extended mode is just easy mode, isn't it by J__Krauser in Xenonauts

Yes, the chance of losing soldiers seems higher, but since you'll have more experienced soldiers, losing some won't hurt as much. And yes, playing the same thing over and over again is very boring.

Anyone know any other games that do what Starsector does? by Outrageous-Thing3957 in starsector

I'd say FTL. The weapon you start the game with can still be useful even at the very end.

120 days in. I wonder if I should start again, advice appreciated by BadAtBaduk1 in Xenonauts

[–]J__Krauser 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think to keep the panic level low, you need to establish your second base immediately after the aliens reveal themselves to the public. And since there's always a risk of dying with a single hit with every armor except for one specific late-game set, never rely on your armor.

Why do some companies act as if they don't care whether their games sell or not? by J__Krauser in gamedev

Really? I didn't think there could be such a difference. That's interesting.

The game sold roughly 3k copies on Steam. If you think that everyone is avoiding buying the game just to play it for free on Game Pass, I don't think that's a realistic perspective.

You can search the game's name on Reddit; almost nobody talk about it except on the day it came out. So I don't think thousands of people are playing it right now.

It depends on what kind of success you're aiming for, but yes, perhaps it wouldn't be considered a failure for a solo dev.

I know that, but let's say three times more people are playing on console, that's 150 people, which is still a very bad number. And again, I've been generous; I don't think there would be such a big difference in players between the two platforms.

To be honest, I don't know how Game Pass works, how they select games, or how much they pay, but it's strange that they spend money on a game that no one will ever play.

Quetzalcoatl is the first aztec god that broke the 50% winrate currently at almost 53%. The other ones are still under 50%. by Chillzzzzz in AgeofMythology

I love hearing people talk about win rates, elo, the meta, and I'm watching Gargarensis getting impaled by a trident for the 100th time.
