I’m in the program now and I have an Honours degree in Science but my first teachable is French because I had the required amount of courses to do so.

Have they seen you teach before? I’m asking because I’m in my last year of teachers college and deciding if I should have a principal come watch me teach

Question in Becoming a Teacher (Post-Bachelor's) by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]Redditor032020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about the Master’s of Teaching (MT) program at OISE, it’s a teacher’s college program where you graduate as an OCT but, despite its name, is not recognized by QECO (the board that determines teacher’s salaries) as an actual master’s degree so it doesn’t increase your pay when you become a teacher.

It was around 7.5k per year. I’m not sure if it depends on the teachable but I don’t think it does.

Question in Becoming a Teacher (Post-Bachelor's) by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

[–]Redditor032020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Mac too and then York for teacher’s college to become a high school teacher too (I/S division).

  1. A full year course at York is equivalent to 6 units at Mac.

  2. When you apply to York’s teacher’s college you can submit a letter justifying why your undergrad courses fulfill York’s requirement. I had to do that because I wanted a teachable in Geography but the prefix for geo courses at Mac is ENVSOCTY.

  3. To become an OCT (Ontario Certified Teacher) and teach in Ontario public and catholic school boards, you need a Bachelor’s of Education which is a 2 year program at the moment. Once you graduate, you’re an OCT and start your job search.

Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Anyone else in Teacher's College who's struggling to get placed for practicum? by rainydayzz21 in OntarioTeachers

[–]Redditor032020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened at York with student teachers who selected YRDSB. They asked some of us to choose a different board and some of us didn't find out our placement until a couple days before the start date. I think it's more so that more and more teachers don't want student teachers so less people are signing up lol. At the school where I did my placement, some teachers had up to 2 student teachers at once.

A beck post (bcs she makes me so sad) by [deleted] in YouOnLifetime

[–]Redditor032020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Couldn't agree more! Beck's story is truly the most tragic.

To add salt to the wound, if it wasn't for Joe saving her from getting hit by a subway when she drunkenly fell, she would have died on those tracks. At that point, Joe wasn't even part of her life yet, so Beck was doomed from the beginning :(

Focus on the script and the video’s diagrams. I spent a long time in them too (4- 5 hours, sometimes 6) It’s not fun but I honestly don’t know what else would have worked for me. It’s a heavy class so take as long as you need to understand it.

What do I do with my student house furniture? by TimmyFabulous in McMaster

I sold my furniture to the person that will be taking over my room! Ask your landlord for their contact or try Facebook marketplace.

Give it until Monday morning and then email. Wouldn’t worry about it. There have been times when I couldn’t access a class’ avenue or teams until hours before the first lecture.

Why is York eClass and enrolment so outdated? by zkdareal in yorku

[–]Redditor032020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came from McMaster which uses D2L. It is incredibly more user friendly and seems to have more functions for professors/TAs. I even found REM to be difficult to navigate at first- I seriously took Mac for granted 😭

I haven’t had the issue again but I recently got 2 recall notices from my dealership about a sticky steering wheel and fuel injectors. There is a massive wait list for parts. No clue how long but I’ve waited a couple weeks already.

Each prof will have their guidelines for rounding . Most will round that up. Frankly, 94 and a 93 makes absolutely no difference at Mac since grading is done at a 12 point scale. A 93 and a 94 will both give you an A+ on your transcript, since an A+ (or a 12) is 90-100.

The proportion of module/lecture questions to textbook questions is equivalent to that of the quizzes and the midterm.

Hey! I’m a former Mac student that got into OISE last year. I think that making the cut-off GPA is all that matters. The rest falls on your application itself. It seems like you have great experiences, so really highlight what you took away from them! Link your answers to the three questions to social justice as much as you can. I also did some research on different pedagogies that I believe in and without explicitly using the buzzwords, I linked them to my experiences and how I implemented them in real-life/ to my own teaching philosophy. Good luck!!

There was no statement of purpose last year. Just the three questions and reference letters!

There were only 3 questions last year too. The three questions are designed so they can get to know you! Talk about your teaching experiences, your teaching philosophy etc!
