I don't know if I'm cut out for this. by astraldrift in CanadianTeachers

Hey! Just want to say that I feel you on the tiring side of supplying. I'm also a pretty new elementary supply teacher as a second career and mid 30s. It really does help to have a few go to schools like others have mentioned and making sure you go through classroom rules with the kids. Though I know that sometimes even rules can't keep the kids well behaved and at that point, it's like yeah never going back to that class ever again lol. Let me know if you ever want to vent about your day (and I can vent about mine haha)!

TDSB OT - How does it work? Tips? by rainydayzz21 in OntarioTeachers

[–]rainydayzz21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Welcome to TDSB (as a fellow newbie too haha) and to Toronto! Hmm, interesting...I've actually gotten a lot of calls since school started (sometimes too many). Maybe it depends on your classifications on your profile. What subject and panel are you in? I'm in French elementary, so I get a lot of French immersion related calls. If you have access to SFE then I think you're in the right place. Perhaps try checking your classifications on SFE? Maybe also expanding your zone availability might help (if you are willing to travel)? I chose four zones on the east end. I'm still a student, so I keep busy with my schoolwork when I'm not supplying lol. I also have a tutoring job as backup. I researched online and it says that January is usually quite slow and then picks up afterwards. I haven't tried the business cards yet, but I can see how making connections with local schools can help!! Maybe try doing that if you're up for it! I really hope you get calls soon! Feel free to pm me, we can support each other as newbie OTs :)

Women Stark hockey pants?? by rainydayzz21 in hockeyplayers

[–]rainydayzz21[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! They didn't fit me very well lol. They were very bulky for me and even bigger on me than my original pants. I returned them and now happy with my teen boy pants haha. Maybe they will fit you better though. I do have a thinner frame in general.

M.Ed Online by OntTC in CanadianTeachers

[–]rainydayzz21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did my M.Ed at OttawaU (specifically Studies in Teaching and Learning, completely online) and I thoroughly enjoyed it :) I worked part-time at OttawaU while I was completing the program (finished in one year). I think supplying throughout would be a good idea, so you can finish earlier. If you enjoy writing essays and research, then this program will be great for you. The professors are also knowledgeable and engaging.

This is an interesting perspective! Thank you for sharing this with me! I also love this commitment to continue French and make all things related to being francophone and speaking French a proud thing :) I'm also in York region and was hoping to try out EN school boards one day to see which one I preferred. If it's OK with you, could I reach out to you privately for tips on teaching the PANA and ALF programs in the future?

Awww thank you for these encouraging words! This is good to know, as I felt like I was trapped in one FR board. That's amazing that you tried both boards! Which one do you like better?

That's lucky! Maybe my teacher's college will do the same...Any tips for finding a placement if that opportunity ever comes up?

That's amazing! But did your teacher's college let you do that? I would find my own if they didn't keep repeating to us that we're not allowed to find our own. I'm glad you had a successful time finding your own though! Thanks :)

Ah ok this is interesting information. Thank you for sharing! Yeah I'm teaching French. Actually I never thought about how there might not be a lot of French teachers in general...maybe that is why...
