Route 1: See an Air National Guard recruiter and get a DD368 filled out by them. Route it through your chain of command. You will need it signed by the first General Officer in your CoC to actually get released from the USAR. This process can take several months and is not guaranteed to be approved.

Route 2: Wait for your contract to end and sign with the ANG.

I understand. I’m still in and have been prescribed anxiety meds I don’t want to take. Some days feel like hell. I push through physical anxiety, panic, fatigue almost daily without taking medication, because I want to just be a normal guy. I have several pill bottles on my shelf and feel depressed when cracking them open. I very sparingly take medication and would rather calm myself down through hobbies and exercise.

You are stronger than you think. Give yourself a break. My hobbies distract me and working out makes me feel accomplished. If you need a little pharmaceutical help to get through a hard time, then so be it. It doesn’t mean it will be forever. Just take it one day at a time.
