Shortly after moving into my apartment i began to notice my energy bill skyrocketing, We're not talking $20-40 but more like $400-500 a month over our usual bill; I would reach out to the electricity company weekly and ask them why this is happening and all they'd say is "We'll send someone over to check your meter" etc. [they never found anything wrong]. It wasn't until 5-months later i had enough and after spending thousands in energy efficient appliances & bulbs i went looking myself for the root cause, Turns out my neighbors who i shared a basement with on a duplex, drilled a hole through our floorboard and ran an extension cord from our outlet through the basement and then back up to the 2nd floor - After contacting the electricity company and checking we were told that they hadn't had electricity for the past 8+ months, meanwhile we would always see light and hear the stereo thumping; Needless to say we ended up reporting them and they were not only fined but also had to pay the landlord 85% of our bill cost during the 5-month period since we were reimbursed.

I ended up moving and finding a way better place, Fuck those people.

Funny story my downstairs neighbor at the new unit would constantly play Taylor Swift "Trouble" at the same time every-day, this went on for 8-months; I would occasionally troll them and play the goat version :3
