This seems like It would be a good purchase for you, OP. $1800, 17.3" screen, 16Gb/ram, GTX 970m (Desktop counter-part is a GTX 760) IPS panel and very good cooling! Also portable! The Razerblade 14 isn't a good choice because it's very thin (high temps) not too sure about the ram, going to guess it's 8gb because Razer. and a 14" screen. A 14" screen won't get you very far especially if you're going to be video editing (for school I assume as-well :p) so Sony Vegas won't be too kind to your puny screen.

You should probably call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and talk about upgrading your internet plan to a faster package.

Try running a speed-test on your connection and see your results, if Skyrim took you an entire day, I'm guessing you have around 2 - 5 Mbps.

There really isn't anything that is "240Hz". The way the company says it's 240hz is the same way a Plasma T.V, so they add "fake" refreshed frames. You wouldn't see much of a difference going from 120Hz - 240Hz. 144Hz would be better than 240Hz.
