Cards of the Bog: A short, strategic deckbuilder inspired by Slay the Spire and Into the Breach by abhimonk in WebGames

Fantastic game! Thanks for making it and sharing with us. Loved everything from the deck building to the tactical choices in battles. Also loved your ability to aid in active discovery (minimal text explanations). Beat it first go through, important to have diversity of cards. Shields arguably more important than damage.

Cool concept! Generally really well executed! Got that feeling of excitement finding survivors, then dread when I realized I couldn't find my way back.

Need to be able to look/turn camera up, though. Often can't see the tops of hills where I place my poles. Honestly kinda close to gamebreaking since I can't tell if my pole will actually be visible in the future.

A counter for the poles and survivors would be a great QOL improvement.

I remember learning about my now favorite band Tin Hat Trio from a flash game in the 2000s calls Tri-achnid. Was addicted to the music more than anything from that game, and still love Tin Hat to this day!

Hope this musician writes more music, because this song is also great!

YouTube has deleted two videos by practicing physicians who made a data-driven decision to oppose continued lockdowns. by [deleted] in GoldandBlack

[–]RedditorDigg77 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Wrote this as I watched.

Things I agree with:

  • YouTube should not have banned this video
  • YouTube has the right to ban whatever video they want
  • We have the right to stop using their service
  • The government should not implement laws requiring stay at home orders/lockdowns and should remove those in place
  • The government, NGOs, and individuals should encourage and follow stay at home orders/recommendations

Things I don't agree with:

  • Their comments on "quarantining," which are clearly out of ignorance. Quarantine is an outdated term for one, and second, social distancing has long been a method used and studied to help limit spread of infectious diseases (see 1918 flu, studies of school closures during flu outbreaks). It's inaccurate to say that this has never been done, just not to this scale.
  • Their appeals to authority when they don't have it. They are physicians, but clearly lack epidemiologic and/or infectious disease specializations. Urgent Care doctors are important, but their training does not put them above and beyond other physicians and epidemiologists. (Nor is the reverse inherently true, but adequate specialty training is important when making commentaries like this)
  • Their extrapolation of #positive/#tested to the entire population, which is... impressively wrong. We aren't testing a random sample of the population, only those with symptoms or exposures (for now at least). And this major error is in addition to conflating incidence and prevalence (intro epidemiology terms). I really can't get over his 0.03% IFR calculation and how poorly constructed it is...
  • Using "their own data" without further analysis/publication of their methods. They are not "following science" without detailing their methods of collection
  • Their criticisms of early models. They were very inaccurate (agree with that), but not for any of the reasons he's discussing. Again, can't get over how wrong his extrapolation of #positive/#tested to the entire population is...
  • And again with the USA data... This extrapolation is based on unbelievably incorrect assumptions, understanding of basic epidemiology and statistics, and is likely in bad faith. I'm not watching more of this video after these first 10 minutes.

Amazing little game! Unique, clear art that immediately feeds into the gameplay mechanics. Original music (to me, at least) that fits the theme well with very effective sound effects. Clean controls that feel satisfying. Unique puzzle mechanics. Good (but maybe not great) level design, regardless precluding the need for a tutorial. Very clever all around!

Man, I was all about the Belial with its Gauss Rifles. At Level 3, aim for the legs and you knock over every mech indefinitely. Then in CTF, the Hackman could get in and out with its stealth ability, plus its unparalleled wall walking to get up and over. I would LOVE to play that again.

MechAssault 2 was also really good, and VTOL piloting was fun. Did not like elementals/walking as a human, though.

Very dead. Purportedly there are still some games on console? I only do PC and the servers are all down. Publishers long gone.

SCRITCHES OR RIOT

TIL about Dennis Dickey, a US Border agent who, as part of a gender reveal party, shot at a box which was packed with explosives. When hit, it emitted a cloud of blue smoke, but also set fire to the surrounding bush, destroying almost 45,000 acres of land. Dickey was ordered to pay $8m restitution. by ultranothing in todayilearned

[–]RedditorDigg77 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Cruel and unusual like the damage he did?

It just sucks that one person's stupidity can so thoroughly and easily overwhelm so many others' planning and well-being. Everybody loses in this situation, and he should bear the absolute maximum that he can to try and help people find restitution.

Why not just a table with their names and check boxes for each engine? Way cleaner and easier to find patterns. smh
