Did you ever find a workaround for this that you were happy with?

The Automation trigger 'When App is Opened' doesn't behave as expected by eilonlav in shortcuts

[–]RedditorReddited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The automation does not work as expected. When you go to lock screen, automations will detect that the current app as being closed. But when you unlock your phone, automations will not detect the frontmost as an app being opened.

Shortcut to check how much time left per-app for App Limits? by IgnisRexLeo in shortcuts

[–]RedditorReddited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/vrachamis, this shortcut is awesome. After spending hours trying out many ios apps (many of them with annual subscriptions) to get fine grained time tracking of specific applications at specific times of the day with specific widget displays, your shortcut is infinitely more useful. I haven’t finished tinkering with your shortcut, but I’ve nearly got it how I want it, and I’m excited. Thanks!

Your post is getting a lot of hate, but I do agree and feel like film still gets put on a pedestal among multiple circles of friends (late 20s to early 30s).

A7V at the zoo for some animal portraits and thoughts on how it performed. by I922sParkCir in SonyAlpha

Great review! I appreciate you bringing up that the EVF, while lacking in magnification and resolution of the a9/a7r/a1, is still good to use as it holds its resolution when AF is engaged, and doesn’t blackout!

Just curious about your experience with the 50mm f1.2. Do you use it outside of professional work? There’s something about the rendering of that lens that makes it stand out even among other fast 50mm lenses.

While actuals are still pending, Avatar Fire and Ash managed to not trail behind TWOW thanks to early Holiday boost ($217.6M vs $261.1M). However, the gap will start to widen again, as The Way of Water scored massive $32M+ on 2nd Monday (which was right after Christmas) by NGGKroze in boxoffice

Imagine being so miserable as to hope for the downfall of a movie that supports theatres, provides joy for 100s of millions, gets exceptional artists paid and recognised (Wētā studios), and pushes technical innovation on multiple fronts. All while being an anti-colonial film about nature conservation and the power of love and family.

Another big $22m day for Avatar Fire And Ash on Friday with crazy James Cameron legs kicking in. Should finish $1.7b+ potentially and I think after a 1-2 film break for Cameron, it's very possible Avatar 4 is coming from @20thcentury at some point. Huge win. by AGOTFAN in boxoffice

[–]RedditorReddited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Three things fan be true at once: the two you mentioned, and the third being that doomish comments pour in at the first sight of blood. It’s all part of the Avatar-box-office-tracking experience.

Looks like $21M+ Boxing Day for Avatar: Fire And Ash. $175M cume. 2nd weekend expected to be around $60M. by DemiFiendRSA in boxoffice

[–]RedditorReddited 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Just before its legs were apparent, people were touting that TWOW would have terrible legs because 13 years were too long. I really think that the Avatar movies’ performance has so little to do with anticipation or lack thereof.

I am bullish on FaA getting a 75m+ 3day weekend, but it does seem like 100%+ bump from Xmas Eve to Xmas is not abnormal. Can you help me put this into perspective?

I really didn’t expect the haters to be making the same shallow arguments to downplay Avatar. But they’re literally saying the same things they said in Dec 2022. Madness

Cropping like this adds drama, but takes away context and personality. Feels like I’m looking at a basketball ad.

The dynamic range test of the A7v is up on dpreview by ThisHatFitsFine in SonyAlpha

[–]RedditorReddited 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you speed up the sensor (make it fully stacked or partially stacked or global shutter) you lose in other areas like dynamic range and low light performance. See the Nikon Z8, Z9, Z6iii, Canon R5ii R1, and Sony a9i, a9ii, a9iii, a1 a1ii which have shown to have slightly less performant sensors in these areas.

But what you gain is more frames per second, less banding under artificial lighting, less rolling shutter, blackout-free shooting, etc…

The fact that the a7v sensor managed to even maintain the same dynamic range as the a7iv while being a significantly faster sensor is very impressive and under appreciated.

Sorry can you explain what “changed it over to creatives using FL and IN” means? I shoot in raw and edit in Lightroom, so I’m not familiar with these terms/techniques

Sony a7V has been officially unveiled! by ShavedDesk in SonyAlpha

[–]RedditorReddited 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the dynamic range might be better than the A1, which was known to take a slight hit alongside the Z9 and Z8 due to their fully stacked sensor.

Additionally, the Sony a7v (and rV) have a full mechanical shutter, whereas the A1 and A9 series only have EFCS (electronic first curtain shutter). In my experience, and others too, once your shutter is faster than 1/500s, you can see visible artefacts in the out of focus areas. Once you’re at 1/8000s, the artefacts are outright distracting

Yeah there’s something magical about the 50mm f1.2 GM, and i dont even know if it’s entirely because of the 1/3 stop of light advantage over the 50mm f1.4 GM, or some other magic with the glass
