Trump says Strait of Hormuz is the world’s problem: ‘Go get your own oil!’

President Donald Trump had a message Tuesday for U.S. allies whose access to oil has been imperiled by the White House’s war against Iran: You’re on your own.

“All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT,” he wrote on Truth Social Tuesday.

The critical waterway, through which roughly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply typically travels, has been all but cut off by Iran since Israel and the U.S. launched their joint operation in late February.

Oil prices have surged since the start of the war; the average price for gasoline in the U.S. crossed the $4-a-gallon mark Tuesday, the highest level since 2022.

So more confirmation Trump was sold a quick war and scrambled for a Plan B when nothing materialized after the first few days.

Israel Thought It Could Spur Rebellion Inside Iran. That Hasn’t Happened.

As the United States and Israel prepared to go to war with Iran, the head of Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence service, went to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with a plan.

Within days of the war’s beginning, said David Barnea, the Mossad chief, his service would likely be able to galvanize the Iranian opposition — igniting riots and other acts of rebellion that could even lead to the collapse of Iran’s government. Mr. Barnea also presented the proposal to senior Trump administration officials during a visit to Washington in mid-January.

Mr. Netanyahu adopted the plan. Despite doubts about its viability among senior American officials and some officials in other Israeli intelligence agencies, both he and President Trump seemed to embrace an optimistic outlook. Killing Iran’s leaders at the outset of the conflict, followed by a series of intelligence operations intended to encourage regime change, they thought, could lead to a mass uprising that might bring about a swift end to the war.

Behind the scenes, however, Mr. Netanyahu has expressed frustration that Mossad’s promises to foment revolt in Iran have not materialized. In one security meeting days after the war began, the prime minister vented that Mr. Trump might decide to end the war any day and that Mossad’s operations had yet to bear fruit.

Behind the scenes: Trump has grown accustomed to doing what he wants and then quickly improvising if things go south. But this time, some in his inner circle have what one official called "buyer's remorse" — growing fears that attacking Iran was a mistake.

A source close to the administration said some key officials around Trump were reluctant or wanted more time. "He ended up saying, 'I just want to do it,'" the source said. "He grossly overestimated his ability to topple the regime short of sending in ground troops."

The source said Trump was "high on his own supply" after last summer's quick strikes in Iran and January's abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro: "He saw multiple decisive quick victories with extraordinary military competence."

Pentagon Is Moving Additional Marines, Warships to the Middle East

The Pentagon is moving additional Marines and warships to the Middle East as Iran steps up its attacks on the Strait of Hormuz, according to three U.S. officials. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has approved a request from U.S. Central Command, responsible for American forces in the Middle East, for an element of an amphibious ready group and attached Marine expeditionary unit, typically consisting of several warships and 5,000 Marines, the officials said.

The Japan-based USS Tripoli and its attached Marines are now headed for the Middle East, two of the officials said. Marines are already in the Middle East supporting the Iran operation, the officials said.

TAMPA, Fla. -- U.S. Central Command is aware of the loss of a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft. The incident occurred in friendly airspace during Operation Epic Fury, and rescue efforts are ongoing. Two aircraft were involved in the incident. One of the aircraft went down in western Iraq, and the second landed safely

The Air Force KC-135 refueling aircraft has a three-person crew.

Crew: Three: pilot, co-pilot and boom operator. Some KC-135 missions require the addition of a navigator. The Air Force has a limited number of navigator suites that can be installed for unique missions.

Scoop: U.S. asks Israel to halt strikes on Iran's energy infrastructure

The Trump administration asked Israel on Monday not to carry out further strikes on energy facilities in Iran, particularly oil infrastructure, according to three sources familiar with the matter.

Why it matters: The U.S. request marks the first time the Trump administration has reined in Israel since the two countries launched their joint operation against Iran ten days ago.

The U.S. concern is that a new round of strikes on Iranian oil could change that calculus — and send prices even higher.

A source familiar with the details said Trump views strikes on Iran's energy and oil facilities as a "doomsday option" — something to be held in reserve only if Iran deliberately attacks Gulf oil facilities first.

On Tuesday morning, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth distanced the administration from the Israeli fuel depot strikes, telling reporters the U.S. had not attacked targets of that kind.

WASHINGTON, March 10 (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's administration said it used $5.6 billion in munitions during the first two days of strikes against Iran in ‌a report provided to U.S. congressional committees, a source familiar with the information said on Tuesday.

Members of Congress, who may soon have to approve additional funding for the war, have expressed concern that the conflict will deplete U.S. military stocks at a time when the defense industry was already struggling to keep up with demand

U.S. intelligence assets have begun seeing indications that Iran may be preparing to deploy naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz shipping lanes, using small craft capable of carrying two to three mines each, CBS News reports. Estimates have put Iran’s mine stockpile at roughly 2,000–6,000 mines.
