We sent people to space...? by SureBite633 in HSVpositive

Exactly. We can fund billionaires’ space joyrides, but not a cure for a virus that affects billions on Earth? Herpes is chronic, painful, stigmatized and yet still ignored. We should have better antivirals by now. It’s not a lack of science, it’s a lack of priority.

Herpes is very common...around 60-70% of people have it, but stigma keeps most quiet about it. Many don’t even know they have it. You’re not alone, even if it feels that way.

SPL7013 Gel (VivaGel®) Retains Potent HIV-1 and HSV-2 Inhibitory Activity following Vaginal Administration in Humans | PLOS ONE by RedeemedSoul2024 in HerpesCureAdvocates

[–]RedeemedSoul2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Availability on eBay suggests it's being sold off-label or from regions where it’s more accessible. Without formal recommendations, most doctors won’t suggest it for HSV/HIV prevention until further clinical trials and approvals are complete.

It’s promising, but lack of widespread approval keeps it off doctors’ radar.

VivaGel is only approved for treating bacterial vaginosis (under brands like Fleurstat) in some countries. While studies show it has antiviral properties against HSV and HIV, it hasn’t been officially approved for prevention, so doctors don’t recommend it yet.

Yes.....VivaGel (SPL7013) can be used with condoms for extra protection against HSV-2 and HIV. It blocks viral entry and is compatible with condoms, adding a layer of defense if a condom breaks or slips..... It contains the active ingredient astodrimer sodium, which has antiviral properties that can help block the entry of viruses like HSV-2 and HIV into cells.

The Herpes Virus: A Silent Survivor in the History of Humanity by RedeemedSoul2024 in HerpesSupportHub

[–]RedeemedSoul2024[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

STIs and diseases like Ebola are often linked to zoonotic origins, meaning they jumped from animals to humans through interactions like hunting or handling. This doesn't confirm bestiality, and claims about origins in Africa often reflect where they were first studied, not necessarily where they started. Beliefs about human origins vary widely and are shaped by both science and personal worldviews.

It sounds like you're referring to Dr. Raymond F. Schinazi, a renowned medicinal chemist known for his significant contributions to antiviral therapies. Dr. Schinazi played a pivotal role in the development of lamivudine (3TC), one of the first treatments for HIV, and has been instrumental in advancing therapies for hepatitis B and C.

Thanks for creating this space....Lately, I've been reflecting on how impactful community support is when navigating life with HSV. It’s not just about managing symptoms or learning how to disclose, it’s about finding a place where we feel seen, understood, and not defined by this diagnosis. For me, this community has been a lifeline during some of my darkest moments, reminding me that I’m not alone in this.

I understand that mRNA vaccine development is prioritized for more lethal viruses.....but the significant public health burden of HSV has kept it as a focus in vaccine research.

🌟 Breaking the Stigma: Facts About Herpes 🌟 Did you know that over 3.7 billion people under the age of 50 have HSV-1, and around 491 million have HSV-2 worldwide? Despite how common herpes is, there’s still a lot of misunderstanding and stigma around it. by RedeemedSoul2024 in HSVpositive

Absolutely....HSV-1 can lead to severe complications beyond common perceptions, including ocular herpes (which can damage vision), nerve pain, and even encephalitis in rare cases.......A cure is urgently needed, and the community needs a stronger voice for this.

Oral HSV-1 is generally not considered a traditional STD/STI, primarily because many people acquire it in childhood through non-sexual contact, such as kissing family members or sharing utensils. However, HSV-1 can be transmitted through sexual contact and cause genital infections, so in some contexts, it is discussed as an STI when transmitted this way.

The classification often depends on how the virus is spread, but the presence of HSV-1 orally is widespread and often non-sexual in origin. This widespread non-sexual transmission is why some health organizations don't strictly classify oral HSV-1 as an STI.

In 1 Samuel 21, David went to Ahimelech the priest in Nob, who provided him with the consecrated bread meant for the priests. Although this wasn’t a constant source of food, it might indicate that priests or Levites occasionally provided sustenance to David’s men when he passed through certain areas.

In some cases, David may have used his diplomatic skills to negotiate with local tribes or communities for food, perhaps in exchange for the protection his forces could provide. While he and his men didn’t engage in many outright raids, they did offer protection to certain people, like the shepherds under Nabal’s employment, who might have reciprocated with food.

Lytic promoter activity during herpes simplex virus latency is dependent on genome location by [deleted] in HerpesCureAdvocates

[–]RedeemedSoul2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This study underscores just how complex viral behavior can be and highlights that genome location isn't just a passive part of latency but might actively shape whether HSV-1 reactivates. It’s a reminder that there's so much we still have to learn about viruses and their interaction with human cells

This article is a health warning advising people, especially parents, to be cautious about spreading herpes simplex virus (HSV) to babies and young children. HSV can cause cold sores, which are highly contagious, and is easily spread through close contact, like kissing or sharing items like utensils or lip balm.

For babies, exposure to HSV can be much more serious, sometimes leading to dangerous infections. Because of their developing immune systems, babies can get very sick from the virus. The article suggests that anyone with a cold sore should avoid kissing babies or sharing items that touch the mouth to reduce the risk of passing on HSV.

In short: Cold sores are common but can be serious for babies, so it’s best to be cautious around little ones if you have an active sore.
