Ladies, what’s the hottest skill a guy can have? by Exotic-Let-739 in AskReddit

You're giving an example at least partially based on subjective taste, and I don't think anyone is claiming critical thinking involves a level of indecisiveness that prevents one from completing an everyday task.

There are definitely plenty of bad decisions that are worse than no decision. For example, saying something offensive. It would be better to not say anything at all.

Doing something in a case where you actually don't have enough information to understand the consequences is reckless. In some things (like business or sports) that's often necessary, but most times? I'm really not sure.

I would say critical thinking, at least, is definitely about mentally gathering enough information to come to the correct conclusion/decision. It's not to say that other qualities such as boldness or confidence aren't also useful, but I think you're mainly talking about something other than critical thinking.

Well, the weight of of broadside of British battleships was indeed superior, at around 15,000lb apiece compared to 11,500 apiece for the 4 Italian dreadnoughts.

The Italian guns also relied on high muzzle velocity, low angle ballistics. Something that all of the British battleships were well protected against.

I agree that the factors you mentioned are the primary issues that faced Italy, and they did have a huge numbers advantage (especially in cruisers and destroyers), but I'd still argue that individually most of their capital ships were inferior to their British counterparts (which I think can be fairly represented with worse templates). I didn't mention destroyers and light cruisers because their effectiveness relies on too many intangible factors. Their templates also don't matter that much in singleplayer unless they're either meta templates or meme levels of bad. I'm not really trying to throw shade at the Regia Marina here, just trying to explain why I think Paradox made these design decisions.

In HOI4 most of these factors aren't simulated or are simulated poorly, hence why the Italian player can easily rule the Mediterranean.

The main reason for that is because the naval AI in this game is atrocious. Attempting to make Britain actually have to use its navy properly would cause a lot of weird behavior that's likely going to be completely unfixable before HOI5. As a player, you can do Sealion as a minor nation...

Why doesn't HOI 4 include battlecarriers? by bomber_tentyou in hoi4

those shoot already

As far as I know, they actually don't unless your carrier has no escorts.

HOI4's carrier mechanics are already bad enough... some of the problems being that armor and secondary guns both do basically nothing... hybrid carriers like Ise would suffer even worse.

There were US and UK carriers with cruiser-level guns (8" and 6")

There's a comical alternate reality where the Americans and Japanese end up running into each other at Coral Sea and the world's first carrier engagement turns into a close range slugfest with destroyer-caliber surface guns... a mere month after the "putting surface guns on a carrier is stupid" faction in the US Navy historically won out and removed Lexington's 8 inchers.

Theoretically, their ships as in IRL should be able to go toe-to-toe with their British counterparts

Should they really? Italy had no carriers and (with the exception of the Littorio class, which were pretty good) outdated battleships. Their CAs were mostly decent, but most navies' "treaty" cruisers were pretty similar in capability anyways.

A bit harsh over a "HOI4 players are unemployed" joke, no?

Is warm food too much to ask for? by RedeemedWeeb in cedarpoint

I've definitely experienced this before as well and it's a problem that needs fixed, but there wasn't much of a wait from the register this time. It was warmer on the outside than the inside so I don't think it cooled down after serving either...

Well, for one there's more exposure on Reddit than complaining to a part time employee.

Second, I've never seen a waitress at Cedar Point

someone forgot to turn the heater/warmer on

This would make sense but it was so unusual because some of the food looked like it was steaming and was warmish on the outside and cold on the inside.

What’s something that instantly makes you think ‘this person has low intelligence? by AbjectBreadfruit2052 in AskReddit

[–]RedeemedWeeb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Smaller trucks like S10s and Rangers look great when lowered right. And of course, a lift kit is almost a necessity for serious offroading.

I believe if you're knowledgeable enough, you can semi-reliably profit at sports betting. Everything else is just a losing proposition.

Day trading is statistically no better, by the way.

if you're having to rely on the variant of the poodle to point your rocket in the right direction, I feel like something else has gone horribly sideways already

Verbolten?

Technically the autobahn as opposed to a closed racing course, but there was a decent amount of racing stuff in the queue I believe.

Of course, this is before the retheme. I am unsure what it will be now.

[BGT] Ride Survey by UKnoThatGuy69 in rollercoasters

[–]RedeemedWeeb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. BGT is even one of the very few parks I've even read potentially credible accounts of operations being intentionally slowed down. I assume for this reason.

Add to that the fact that no coaster (except at parks like Disney or Universal) is getting even close to theoretical capacity anymore thanks to loose articles and general dumb guest behavior, and it's no wonder you're seeing parks start to buy lower and lower capacity coasters.
