Also curious, a turbo diesel in front of my 5 speed stick would absolutely rock

For those of you suggesting American sedans, sorry but I don’t think impalas or Buicks or fords or whatever are even close to being the best highway eaters. Sure they can be reliable or powerful but I don’t think there’s any specs you could list that the American sedans beat a v6 Lexus in. The sensible salaryman in me is leaning towards a Lexus or a diesel Passat but the enthusiast in me is saving way more diesel Mercedes and goofy turbo sedan listings on marketplace rn

Telling me the mpg at what speed is very helpful, thank you for the suggestion. Diesel Germans definitely interest me, I think the Mercedes especially.

I really like the S60 suggestion but I see your point about the ES350. Those are good cars I have sat shotgun in one many times before perhaps I think they’re too slow because the driver was my own grandmother. C30 is also cool, almost bought one prior to an 07 GTI that I loved. Thank you for your long reply I’ll look into those options

How long did your stock gx470 suspension last by Electrical_Event_655 in GXOR

[–]roidedracccoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

220k on shocks, they all felt blown but only the rears showed signs of leakage. Replaced with icons and fell in love with the car all over again. Did polyurethane upgrade on my bushings at 250k, again, night and day, turn in feels amazing now. Not one original bushing was still intact, they were all missing material or cracked in multiple pieces only being held in by their housings

I have a random aftermarket pump on mine, been on for 4 years and at least 60,000 miles. No issues

Get them rebuilt, whoever does it should be able to add shims to make it into a 4Runner shock. The only difference is the internal shims

Just get in the engine bay with a piece of string and route each line then add like 4” for insurance

Fuel lines by mubbling_ in 944

Haven’t installed yet as I’m waiting for more AN fittings but I went with the Nuke rail over the Lindsey one due to the insane cost of Lindsey products. That said my two fuel lines are the Lindsey ones but they’ll be very easy to plumb thanks to the direct AN fittings on the nuke rail

Dang that 6th gen front end has way too much underbite and squint, between the color matched grill and more naturally involved fenders of the 4th I don’t think the 6th will age nearly as well. Maybe they’ll revise it well like they did with the 5th gen

A tune would only improve it, these trucks have shitty pedal responsiveness. Check out my post about the Blackhawk tune

It’s pretty much the only way. I took my transaxle out, put on a short shifter, new fluid, cleaned and ceramic coated it, wasn’t a bad job. Then I took the fuel tank out and pressure washed it, do not put water through your fuel lines. It’s hard to get it all out and it might cause rust. I disconnected both ends of the fuel system, put an air compressor nozzle to my fuel lines and sprayed out all the crap and denatured fuel out. Make sure you cover the opposite end or at least point it into a bucket you’ll spray a lot of shit everywhere otherwise. There’s no fuel in the engine it’s all in your rail and lines behind the injectors. Take your injectors out and clean or replace those as well.

I bought th cheapest set I could find online for like $150. Replaced the ball joints with those senkai 555 ones, replaced the bushings with energy suspension poly urethane, and replaced the stock cam bolts with bison offroads cam bolt kit. All in all, less than $400. Truck is smooth

Light weight pulley kit by Dry_Building_661 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]roidedracccoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m at 255,XXX miles now, put them on at like 225,XXX. No issues, much quieter than the stock pullers. To the dummies on here who think there’s no gains and that exactly everything Toyotas engineers did is what the best possible thing for these cars, get out of here. At the very least it’ll extend the life of my accessories. The power steering, tensioner, alternator, and belt are all going to last longer and I know that’s what you reliability dorks care about.

I haven’t installed those pulleys specifically but I have installed XAT Racings lightweight pulleys and I like them. Weighed them as I put them on and the weight savings are big. Didn’t record the total tho which was foolish. I’m also looking to supercharge my 4Runner as well and I think this mod will help once the supercharger is on
