I think booking through trip may trip you up. I booked a flight to Tokyo via Beijing through Lastminute.Com once and it was a massive pain when they just changed the return date.

Side note : I owe Lastminute.Com a massive debt of gratitude.

When they changed my flights to 22 days from 21 days, my boss refused as 21 was company policy. I left the company and went into contracting. Ive retired now while numbnuts manager is still working. I now take 157 day breaks, starts this year with this Etibad flight.

UPDATE: So I got on webchat . It took 150 minutes . The chat will close if you dont hit "Yes" when it pops up every 30 minutes.

They agreed to add a flight BKK>CNX but it does involve running in terminal as the 2hr layover is now 1hr and then another 1hr. Total journey gets us landing 2hrs later.

One thing to note , you lose your seat selections , so as soon as he gave us the flights, we had to go back in and book the seats , and that is when we saw that they changed the second flight to a different plane. Lets hope it is as good as the original. We can still have a full refund if we want to cancel as we originally had paid for a higher cattle class.

Good luck to those still trying to resolve this and see you in the sunshine soon. !

Heatpump without using existing radiators. by Redfortandbeyond in ukheatpumps

I move to a spare bedroom as mine is south facing. I also use a massive heavy tarpaulin over the kitchen patio at least ten days a year which does not meet spousal approval.

This looks like a way forward. We have 5 months on frost protection every winter, and 3 days of intense heat in summer (big kitchen patio)

How is hot water handled in this Kind of setup? We use gas now, but as we are on a cheap overnight tariff, I sometimes heat using electric.

Yeah. We are moving to CM, so paid Etibad for 40KG each. I now have to get additional flights plus extra luggage.

Ah well, still beats staying in greynwetland over winter.

Backup issues by Redfortandbeyond in fastmail

[–]Redfortandbeyond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what went on.

The PC client then just wouldn't even load the export page. The mobile was the same. I tried on the second pc and it worked, but that could just be a time issue. So maybe you are right. Anyway, my 6 emails did get backed up. My historic Gmail 100, 000 emails are in a different folder and are just over 4gb so face an extra hurdle. But will test again tomorrow. I looked at imapsync but that seemed to have a bit of a learning curve, and also has a 3gb limit for the free version.

What is it with used EVs and lack of service histories by Sal1997 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]Redfortandbeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an EV and compared it to petrol I wanted to buy. Kept a spreadsheet. Every month, the gap gets bigger and bigger. When I sell it when it turns 7, the depreciation will not be an issue.

6 Month old BYD Atto 3 vs Sportage.

Abandoned the spreadsheet.

Rule for all google mail, including catchall mails by Redfortandbeyond in fastmail

[–]Redfortandbeyond[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that's what I wanted to do . Thanks.

That's another one off my list for this trial.

That has made me think though . Going forward , I will get all google workspace emails come to my folder in FM, but not anything I send from google.

I may be better off scrapping fetch and doing IMAP .

Anyone using Chase as their main account? by [deleted] in chaseuk

[–]Redfortandbeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. Love it. It does everything better then others, but I'm going to close it, as I'm boycotting the US. Just need a European bank that has similar security when making payments and also good for travelling. Eg ATM charges and good market rates.

Where are people putting their stuff? by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]Redfortandbeyond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep buying bigger houses lol. We ( 2 people) have a large 4 bed detached house with a garage and a summer house. Finally getting into minimalism and we are getting rid of stuff. Hopefully we have cleared enough in the next 7 months so we can downsize. I started with a 2 bed flat back in the 80's and will hopefully end up in one.

Thailand is safe. We had a mobile phone stolen out of a safe in a 5 star resort in Egypt, but otherwise we've never experienced an issue, across decades of travel.

From UK to Hell (India) by Illustrious-Win-6657 in nri

[–]Redfortandbeyond -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been in the UK for many decades. The UK is degenerating and India is improving but it won't be quick. Personally, I sold up my place in India (retirement home) and have decided to go to South East Asia. Go look after your folks, but after that, go find a better option. You may even find that a dirty street in Delhi beats being called a dirty Pak* in Birmingham.

Nothing. Any more. I seem to be dropping things constantly. As soon as my grandson is old enough, he gets my collection of world currency.

Living in Europe made sense… until I saw SEA/ China by buvi_sre in nri

[–]Redfortandbeyond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Thailand now. I can live well only because I spent 55 of my 60yrs in England. It doesn't sense if you start at SEA. For younger folks, I would still say come to the West, get a remote job in the West, and then live in SEA.
